Smile sound offs future

hi guys just browsing around the site again and decided to put some thoughts about this social event we call "sound offs" out to you.
1) in an industry that right now is so fragile for car show attendence and participants, are we banning the people that ARE generating the interest in our industry!!!!! why are we banning Pat, he works his tiny little butt off to ru............,did i just say tiny little butt,?? ............... never mind. run shows and promote the industry.. he is fantastic for all business involved in car audio... Dave has the most opinions about everything and he is not afraid to tell you about them.. but he at least is willing to hold car shows and take a beating finacially to promote OUR hobbie.. his shows always involve great prizes awsome trophies and lots of beer!! that costs money!! yet we ban him from our web page..... i think we should have rules to protect ourselves form people that want to HURT our hobbie, NOT people that promote and try to get intrerest out there. so what if Dave is opinionated... laugh it off. he does far more good for our hobbie than bad. same with Pat. these guys are the fuel to a declining hobbie and if you cut them out of the limelight, iam sad to say no one yet is stepping up to the plate to hold shows and promote like they are......
2). for our car shows can we please do more advertising........ ex. posters at the local schools, go to the stores and put up posters or just talk to the installers in the back and let them know. we are the first line to get interest in the customers heads as we are working on there cars! call the local radio stations....... they will mention your event over the air, just call in on the all request hour and let them know whats going on and then make your request of ac/dc!! call the local newspaper, langley times, abby times chilliwack times, coquitlam times, every town has a local paper that is just dying to print local events...
3) can we please try to hold the shows at easily accessable and highly visable locations!! Pat and Robert, holding shows there does nothing for drive by traffic and its way out of the way and hard to find... most churches have huge paved parking lots and are usually located in a good location, or a local high school, perfect... family bring there kids dad does his thing mom walks the dog and the kids go play in the playground... also more rooms means more demo vehicles to show off to the passing by traffic. that huge mtx semi will make any red blooded canadian stop to check THAT thing out...
just a little more planning and maybe a little more time and our shows could start to grow again....... but as long as the same group of people are doing the same thing at the same places with the same results, we wont expand and will continue to regres. we have already lost 3 fantastic mag for our industry, now carsound looks to be gone, and there is little movement on zero hurtz, and elite car. lets get back to basics... lots of posters on light posts and in the schools and in the car audio shops, banners on cca and the other car audio web pages, lots of notice, decent prizes, and plan some fun stuff for us to do there, like used radio toss, freezie eating contest, wet t-shirt contest, scream offs, r.c. cars, see if the local archery club would like to come out and do demos, contact the local motorcycle club or car club and do a double event.... just bouncing some thoughts off you... or even have a d.j ( a friend with a loud stereo and pay him a case of beer). and let him spin some tunes. i am almost done competing as iam now 40 with a beautiful new wife and family and between coaching/playing hockey, coaching/playing fastball/ golf/ ect ect i dont have much time anymore and would love to leave knowing that the industry is growing and doing just fine!.. just my two cents

thank you as a shop owner its are job to do this
but with no help anymore from suppliers its alot for the shop to do
im having 4 show and losing my shirt to do it
suppliers are having there own race now its called the fasted race to zero
lets take 10% off per year untill the cost is zero no more car audio
then they say sell more but 0 x0 = o
no more profit means no more shops
people will pay to play
golf culbs 1500plus and thats just to start
rc cars i owned 5000 worth
and so on
so cd players do not have to be 99.99 to sell them
maybe at 199.99 the supliers can start drive events agan
gettting more poeple into it
sorry but that what it takes

you make a very good point about the cost invovled in holding a show as to thr return on your investment, i dare say it is not very good. why dont manufacturers pump our the money or give out pop like they did in the late to earlty 90s well alot of shows that they did help out with didnt do the leg work to make the show a succsess.. poor advertising, no notice, poor prizes if any, no sanctoning body, ect ect ect... people attended these show and were board, there was nothing to do, iam not going, they are not giving out any swag and have little plaques as rewards. some of the best shows i have ever been to were put on either in the states or audio concepts mobile in calgary and edmonton... in calgary they were held at the backally bar. started at 2pm and went until after dark. they had the bar girls taking food and drink orders(non alcoholic), inside you could have a quality beverage if you wanted, bathrooms right there and tons of traffic!!!!! oh and the bar girls did i mention the bar girls, ya at those shows they had bar girls, get the point!! j. t.made sure that he gave away good stuff show, posters, stereo gear, and trophies, music was being played in the background. those were fun shows!! and cost was very minimal as parking lot free, swag donated, advertising free to very cheap on radio and calgary hearld, i used to drive up from ponteix sask to these shows, thats how good the advertising was, 600km away and i would no about the show in a town of 800 people!!! create good shows and the people will come, and with more traffic and interest manufactures will have to step up to the plate with give aways and support.. it will happen

I can really only comment on the first thing you said about letting people on the board.

The 2 people you have mentioned are banned for a specific reason that has nothing to do with car audio or their involvement.

Pat was banned because he couldn't follow the rules about posting a show. He's a very good friend of mine and I've asked him to come back a couple of times. He has chosen not to come back. There's not much we can do about it if he makes the choice not to come here. I'd be the first one to welcome him back if he did though.

Dave has been banned for his abusive behaviour towards the admin of this site. This is the part where I have to correct something from your original post. This is not "our" web site. This is the admins. He pays the very big bills to keep this site alive. If he bans someone for swearing at him and threatening him I can tell you that I will have no objections about it.

If Dave can come back and act in a way that better suits the rest of the site I'm sure we'll be glad to have him back as well.

We have given others a "2nd chance" so there's no reason to think that these guys can't be given one as well. It's just up to them to use it in a constructive way.

Well, maybe look at what peoples expect from shows would help??..... from what i've seen in shows nowadays, alot of the important key attractions are missing.

Here are just a few:

- SQ demo cars. (good sounding ones, like the Focal's Nissen Altima)

- prize money. (top 3 placement)

- people that really loves music. (alot of people are there only for the fancy installs and don't care about sound)

- Recognition after a win. ( usually no results are posted anywhere, almost like the show never even exsisted the next day.)

- What's newest & latest in car audio gears.

- competitors willing to show their car for sound demo. (most of them are lock up tight)

These are just a few just from top of my head, I'm sure there are more.

When i competed in 2005, there were only 2 people plus 2 SQ judge that were interested about sound........ and the rest, were more interested with only the install. didn't care about sound period. truly sad!

In the 'ol days, even before Iasca..... there were shows with 100+ competitors. yes, in Vancouver! and it was all about sound. as the challenge was about "who has the best sounding car in town". ofcourse the install has to be safe & clean. It was held by a radio station CFOX which is still around today. they also had prize money ($1000 for 1st and $500 for 2nd, $250 for third.) and also award for the worst car there. the SQ portion was judge by sound engineers from the radio station.... there were also follow up after the show, like results were sent to all the car audio retailers and the top three were announced on the radio.

Thumbs up

in response to prolifik, any show that is held iam usually at competing or just going to show my support... and i have been doing this since 88.... yes i can talk about some ideas i have about making the sound off scene popular again because iam part of the scene! everthing that i mentioned for bettering the shows takes very little extra effort as opposed to running a show with some effort and getting no results.... lets see 50%effort and terrible results or 80%effort and.oh lets say 50% results....as shows get better people will naturally want to help out more to make the NEXT show even better....the organizers of the shows should, in my opinion. contact the regulars and as them for any input and if they could make some time to help with things...like can you maybe call the local newspaper and let them know whats going on.... or can you be in charge of arranging music for the show..... or if i give you 100 posters can you put them up around town.... you know find out what these competitors do for a living talk to them maybe one is a web page designer and he can post your show on a web page.. ect ect ect.... lots WE can do to help just call and we will more than likely give some form of assistance.
