sound offs future

I don't know what you guys are talking about in BC, we have 17 events this year...Events are not expensive to hold for retailers...I have been running events for 6 years, 86 shows through out western canada...the issue is people want shows but don't attend them. I had 27 people out in Salmon Arm, 40 in Prince George, 48 in Duncan...it is NOT dying. Most of the people on this forum do NOT attend shows, do not support shows. You can build a SQ system for $1500...yes $1500.00 - my system cost in total with supplies $2268.32. And I won the World Championships and got best in show. My current set up in SPL, costs $2800.00 retail. Your can be competive on a budget. You want to know why there are so little shows in Vancouver...NO SUPPORT. I can hold a show in a small market - Vernon, Salmon Arm, Duncan and get 40+ cars, in Vancouver maybe, maybe 16 cars. I will tell you what, if everyone who says they compete or support shows, actually shows up...I will hold a show for FREE including FREE entry. If you guys can get 30 people, I'll do it. Industry dying, hum...retailers who are adapting to new markets and new ideas are making great money and are growing. If you are a dinosaur who thinks the business practises of the '80s or '90's still work...that why you are not making money.
Alama Gates came to Vancouver last year, ALAMA FRAKIN' GATES...very little people came out to support her and the soundoff that was in Vancouver...JBL spent alot of money and no one supported her or JBL. She is the most amazing peron I ever meet. Maybe instead of keyboard commandoing, actually support the shows in your area.
Maybe you should start think of competitions as gatherings of great people sharing a great hobby...socialize, hang out and have fun...that is the reason I drive 36+ hours to go to World Finals...to meet people with the same passion for our industry!!!
Support, I know a competitor this year, who came out to 3 shows, and now he is sponsered by a manufacturer!! He is putting out the effort, he is getting rewarded!!!
That being said, everyone who supports shows, I thank you!!!
And yes, my spelling is bad...I am just so mad right now...

I was banned so I can't post there, but the level of misinformation now that all the smart people were banned is incredible.
Noticed a few missing names here lately.
Been wanting to run some shows here, and now that I have TWO competitors maybe we can get a couple going this year. Not much fun competeing against yourself, and Toronto is just a bit far to go for a $20 trophy.
The motivation does seem to have waned, perhaps because the focus seemed to be on how many dollars can be sunk into a car.
Getting "back to good", with the focus on smart design, and cost/power efficiency might spark some interest.
Maybe a trohies for the best SQ-SPL/$ would draw more people, without pricing the industry out of reach of the average enthusiast.
How do you do an SPL system in a smart car with a 30 amp alternator and 30 horsepower?

.some excellent points james,,, shows dont have to be expensive... and we are getting some people out to the shows.... you know what it takes to hold a show out west.............. hands down so you know cost involved... and i dont think 2500.00 gets you that alpine deck of yours or the processor nor the speakers that you used or the labor... labor alone was over that for your car.. thank the good Lord you did it yourself.. so sq can be pricey but i think what i am trying to say is why cant the independents try to work for the betterment of our sport rather than go at it alone.... because alone is to much work and so it dosent get done!!!!! thus no shows out here.. but interior lots if shows......... and again you are right there are lots of spl and, despite contrary believe sq cars out there, but over the last two yrs i have seen only one or two new members/cars. i mentioned my intentions to try and make finals this yr. so my committment is there and you know how many shows i will go to, to do this..... we just want more shows out here, thats all

i stand corrected james.... sorry didnt mean to misrepresent a friend in anyway shape or form..... i was just trying to say that 2500 to compete IF you cant do the work yourself in sq is damn near impossible... but parts should be doable lets see
1) deck 300.00.
2. front speakers. energy 6.5 inch, coaxial. 399.99
3) amps one 4ch exile 125 by 4... 499.99
4. sub and ported enclosure mtx 12 inch and box 299.99
5) wiring, fuses, rca, ect.. 150.00.
$300.00
$400.00
$500.00
$300.00
$150.00
total $1650.00
now this dosent include any labor or soundproofing so lets be realistic and say the labor is 700.00 and 300 on soundproofing... ok that now 2600.00. well thats 3gs with tax not to bad will you win or place......... well that depends on the talent of the installer..

James - you do a great job with the shows but I had a look at your calendar for this summer and ... none of your shows are in the Vancouver area. I remember when we were talking one day that you were hoping to get some dealer support out here this year. That didn't pan out?
Again - kudos to your efforts but Vancouver is an odd market...
Oh - any my first 'competition' system I bought all the gear used. Didn't cost me a grand I bet.
