speaker placement question...

Ok so here is my delema (sp?) in the Datsun there are currently NO front speakers in the doors. the previous owner did at one point have some in the door as there are holes for wonderful 4" speakers (yay!). Personally I'm used to having a great sounding front stage (currently running Focals in my DD) so I'm kinda leary about using some 4" co-ax as my only "speakers" for my audio in the car.
The way the cabin is i can't fit kicks in as its very narrow and cannot make the door holes any bigger to accomodate 5 1/4" or 6.5" speakers. Sucks, i know.
The rest of the stereo is going to be two 8" subs on the parcel shelf directly behind the front seats (basically just infront of the rear strut towers) so I am able to have the entire trunk for suitcases/stuff so the car is usable as well as fun this summer.
What i'm wondering is if I was to get a set of 6.5" components and mounted them in a sealed compartment between the two 8's on the shelf a-la wall-esq look would there be huge issues? I realize my sound will prodominantly be coming from behind but realistically its the only way that i think i can get my mids-high's to be in the car. I would still run the 4's for the 'front' speakers i'd just run the 6.5's as my rears and have them amp'd.

So system would be
front -4" co-ax
rear -6.5" comps
subs - 2x 8"

the way the rear shelf would be laid out would be a 8" on either extreme end (behind each seat) of the shelf then the components between them (basically firing directly between the front seats).

Thoughts? comments?

you're saying a couple 6x9's in the rear hatch would be better than mounting the components on the shelf?

Just my opinion... I'm assuming your hatch speakers holes are 6.5"s? Maybe ghetto mod them to hold 6x9's...

there are no speakers holes in the car other than the two that were made in the doors which only accomodate the 4" that i will be adding...

the 6.5" i was planning on adding were gong to be fabricated between my sub boxes holding the 8's that i have and am going to install.

Other options then running the 4" coax up front will be the HLCD (horn loaded compression drivers) such as Image Dynamics (800-20K) then run a high efficiency 4" something like the Seas 11fgx or the ID 5" mb (80-800hz) if it fits. and use a good 6.5" midbass (80-500hz) in the rear, (as it could be line up to the fronts and could sound as if it appear as its coming from the front as with the subs). But it is for sure a bit more complicated to set up. and some eq & delay is required.
