Speakers mounted in Cardboard :P
Okay, so I know this isn't completely car audio related but I just made a component speaker system using two 3.5 inch hi drivers and one 3 inch speaker from a computer subwoofer. I mounted them all in a cardboard box... hear me out before you judge hahaha.
I was just sitting around bored with nothing to do and I was thinking of a way that I could use some of the old speakers I have laying around. I found a box from a beach floatie, mounted all 3 speakers in it, 2 with nuts and bolts and 1 with tape, taped all the sides shut. The 3.5's have a nominal impedance of around 3.5 ohms each and the 3 inch "sub" has an impedance of 8 ohms. I wired them all in series to come up with something like 14 ohms final. Hooked them all up to my stereo reciever, and WOAH... these things sound really good, even better than they did in their proper enclosures. The 3 inch sub hits low notes pretty well considering its size, and the 3.5's handle mids and highs.
I just thought I'd share cause this result is pretty interesting.
Feedback would be appreciated.

After all these years sucking up MDF dust.....dang....
I remember putting together tunes for the service department at the computer company I worked at years ago.....buddy and I had a deck and 2 pairs of 6X9s. Put a pair of the speakers in each of 2 cardboard boxes around 2cuft each and taped the crap out of them. I was surprised how good it sounded, which just goes to show as long as you seal them up properly a speaker doesn't care what it's mounted in.
Best part was watching the sides of the boxes move in and out as soon as you tried to get any volume out of them....I had to laugh when my friend wanted to try porting them with paper towel rolls.....
The things ya do when yer young.....lol

Always happy to help out....
Maybe a new class for this summer....cardboard and duct tape enclosures, 2 pairs of 6X9s or smaller, deck power only.....how loud can you get it?.....
We could call it the corrugated division.....
