SPL JWS-12 vs. The Old JL 12W6
#1
Has anyone ever notice that almost all the specs. of the SPL JWS-12 is the same as the old 12w6. Is there a reason even the drivers look identical right down to the dustcap. Any thoughts??
www.splusa.net (to get to there subs click products and then amplifiers then select the subs on the left. There site a little messed up)
www.jlaudio.com (under discontinued subs)
Let me know what you think. but if there are the same I think 3 12" JWS's will make it into my van.

Interesting. Too bad their website looks like it was put together by a 10 year old. This is taken from the home page, anyone else spot the poor writing:
"The SPL brand of products has been synonymous with power, performance and quality products, so if you’re inclined to be the trendsetter, then we are the brand you’re looking for! Our engineering team has outdone themselves again in 2003! We have added mobile video to the category and offer you the finest set-up for movies on the go. With patent pending our headrest systems, you can install it without cutting your headreasts: in about five minutes: with our 5.6” screens and our 7” wide screens you can take your “Drive-In” style un-edited movies on the road. You will want to consider our new DVD player that will give you a crisp clean picture and its small footprint is great for under-seat installs.
Strap this up to a competition style “Boom system” with our new Class “D” amplifiers and maintain your battery reserves by employing one or more of our new stiffening the envy of your friends. Who better to give you the total solution for mobile entertainment!
"SPL" Deliviers!"

yeah there is 2 discussions over on ECA on this subject. i've been following them a little in the past couple of weeks. as of now they have a head-to-head comparison going on. the SPL woofer seems to bottom out a bit quicker than the old w6 they are comparing it to, but they say it's probably because it is so new and not worked in yet.
The americans get stuff so cheap though. like $40us for a woofer that costs us $120cdn from canadian retailers. i'd be inclined to think that if i'm going to spend $240 +tax on 2 mediocre subs i might as well put up some more cash towards a high-end SoundSplinter RL-p, something from RE, Ascendant Audio, Adire, etc.. just my opinion though. it will be interesting to see what happens as testing continues...

let me make it simple for u then. JL Auido is a found and a non over looked company, since u like to explore the opposite then by default u should go with the SPL USA sub.
the subs are probably the same, not surprizing at all since most car audio companies now are just really marketing companies. all the parts that they use and 'design' are built in the same factory somewhere in korea and are put together on the same assembly line. the only thing thats different is the brand name slapped onto the sub and maybe diff basket. but the coil, cone and motor are all the same thing.
this is done with amplifiers as well, did u know that Lanzar = Soundsteam??? yes identical boards inside and different casing on the outside.
here are the two amps:
which one is wich???? same board but one is twice the price of the other!!!
my bad about the spl part, i didnt read that right.

^^^^^ HAHAHAHA, I've been telling people things like this for years. There are so many sweatshops in the far east that build bogus gear for pennies on the dollar that are marketed to the gullible US market that just eats it up. Then the gullible Canadians get involved and start the same thing again.

My bet is same parts, different build quality....
probably not a big difference in most cases...
one person on carsound noted that glue joints and the solder on the tinsel leads to binding post were sloppy.......
If you are willing to live with that and no warranty then I don't think you are gullible for buying the cheaper product online for a fraction of the regular retail price....
Edit:
Iam talking about the SPL vs JL woofers yuli... not the amps you posted.....
