Sub Advice

My buddy made a sweet deal with me and I am picking up his saz-1500d amp. I am now on a quest to find a sub to match up with it. Here is some info:

1) I want a single sub setup (Either a single 12 or 15, haven't decided yet).
2) I want to go ported.
3) SQ is a priority, with the potential to **** every once in a while.
4) Budget is roughly 500 (tops) to my door, including taxes and duties.
5) I want to buy a new sub.

I have been looking at a variety of subs. Some of the ones that I have looked at are the mach5 IXL line, Audioque HDC3's, and the SSA Icon's.

I am very interested in the IXL because of the price, but I don't mind spending a few more dollars if there is something on another level.

for an extra 100$ you could get a12" type x and a nice box. it's a real good sub, ask around. or you could go for the 15" type r, don't know the price though. but the sq's probably a little weaker than the type x

I've heard the type x, but it didn't do a whole lot for me. I think i'll give the ixl a whirl. For the price you can't go wrong.

technically for the price you could definately go wrong. because if it ends up being , and it might very well be. then u have to spend even more to get a sub like u should have gotten in the first place.

try a jl 13w6v2.

I have a hookup for JL, but I think their stuff is overpriced. Don't get me wrong, good quality, I'm just not much off a JL fanboy. Also, I doubt a W6 could come close to taking all of a Sundown SAZ-1500D. Mach5 audio has a solid reputation for making good bang for the buck equipment. I wouldn't be afraid to order from them.

Recently, the SSA XCon has caught my eye. They just started shipping. Obviously on the upper side (if not exceeding) my budget, but they look awesome. I'm awaiting a price quote/initial reviews before I jump on board, but this looks like a very nice option.

xCons are more of an SPL oriented subwoofer. i would deffinatly suggest going the iCon route cause they are a more SQL orriented woofer. my other suggestion would be the Fi Q with the bp option. If you maybe wanna go a 2 10" setup, check out the SSD's from Fi also. I owned a pair of them fully loaded w all options and they served me super well

From everything that I have read (yes, I actually read through the entire 24 pages of posts on the Xcon prototype on the SSA forum), they made it very clear it was designed as an sq sub with the potential to get loud. Where have you heard that they are more of an SPL oriented beast?

Nice suggestions... Also, you can add a 15" JBL GTi into the mix. BTW, 15" Mags are no longer made. Fi Q/BL and Icons also get my vote. I'd go a 15" route if a single sub is desired, and you can even seal it to save space, but it will still slam when needed.
