hi, i would like to have these types of edges on my sealed box:

just wondering, is this just a matter of letting the pieces of MDF stick out more on each side then carpeting it? also is it a good ides to double the front for strenth where the sub is mounted? if so, should i be ok if i leave the sides and bottom, and back of the box with just the normal sides?? thanks a lot!

Sorry man, the link doesn't work.
Depending on how much power and what kind of subs you're using, you may not need to double up on the front.
If you've got the extra wood/time/energery, then doubling up on the front baffle certainly couldn't hurt.

I am trying to give advice - don't make your custom box look like a $69 premade!
And as your first box I don't think inset sides are the best way to go. It takes more skill with the wood. Better to take a couple of stabs at carpeting it properly than cut multiple sidepanels.
Double thick baffles are a waste of time if you brace properly.
enuf helpful info yet?

well i have to disagree with your helpful info. first, since its my first time ever to build a box, i dont need a competiton style custom box, just a product that will work and looks nice also as far as the insets are concerned, isnt it just a matter of extending the sides 3/4 inch or so then screwing it? ad third. double baffles make it so you can mount you sub flush with the front, and looks great that way. these are thoughts from others as well. i guess majority rules. thanks for the words though.
what about a 79$ prefab box??

imo...
you are wasting you time trying to make ends stick out like that.its is harder to carpet and takes a little more time to make all the right calculations.as for the front baffle being doubled up your better off to get ahold of some 1" material.if you want your box to be stroger add more bracing inside.just my 2 cents
