hey.

alright, so I have a subwoofer that I have been waiting forever to install in my vehical but things keep coming up and so on, anyway I just got my parents old stereo, one of those big ones with the receiver etc.

My question is what do I need to hook my sub up to this, or is it even possible, can I run it through the speaker jacks or will that not work, Do i need a sepecific subwoofer reciever/amp to power it, the receiver I have has a decent amount of power.

if you need info on the receiver just ask, thanks

Get a subwoofer plate amp. You should be able to find one that's stable at 4 ohms for less than $200.

ok so its a kenwood KR-A5520 receiver. and I have a switch on the back that says "8ohms-or less or 8ohms -or more" so I think it can handle it. but it would send all the frequences to my sub wouldnt it?

That means it is not 4ohm stable. It shoul say 8ohm or 8 ohm+....and you would need a crossover as well.Like brian said get a sub amp or an 8 ohm sub!

I have a Yamaha A-500 receiver that is 8 ohm stable. I run it at 2 ohms all the time, it's fine. Unless I really crank it, then it goes into protect for a couple secondd and kicks back on. If I take off the top and put a fan on it I can run it at 2 ohms cranked.

I think the 8ohms or more switch allows you to hook up two extra speakers... the amp is 4ohm stable.. (stereo, not bridged)

Although if you could invert phase on one side and run bridged that would be pimp and Id do it anyway

Umm you need to find a cheap electronic crossover which will probably run ya $80+ unless you can find one used or on ebay or something... (12V is fine if you have an adapter)

Or.. look for fmods at partsexpress... they go inline with the RCA cables...

I got a rca and it runs two ohm until I turn it up but it likes 2.67ohm and plays that all day cranked no problems
