HI guys, got some great advice here and picked up a set of Polk DB6501 components from Selective sound. They sound awesome! The highs and mid and mid bass are clean and crisp.

Will be installing a new Pioneer 6800 deck, and now that I know my car can sound like my home theater system I wanna add a little more bass than the polks are providing.

If I dont wanna take up a lot of trunk space, what would you guys recommend?
What are the main differences between a 10" and a 12" sub?

I'm not looking for super loud, it's just gotta sound clean.

So size is important, and pricing, maybe under 300 for sub and amp and everything?

Also how do ohms factor in? What is the difference between the Alpine Type S at 2 ohms and 4ohms?

The ohm difference is needed for when you are looking for an amp.

However, personally I am not a fan of Alpine type S's.

What would you recommend that sounds good in the entry level range? Doesn't have to be super loud either. The polks driven by my stock HU is plenty loud for my uses. If that helps as a basis.

So the ohm just needs to match the amp? Its not like a x ohm is better than y ohm thing? Or is 2 ohm easier to find an amp for than 4ohm?

there are always threads going on about 2 or 4 ohm.

Read a manual. you have to know what impedence you want to run when you buy your amp/sub combo. and be carefull if you plan on future upgrading.
Lots of people get stuck with amp/sub combos that don't match. Thats why we have a for sale section.

The difference between a 10 and a 12 inch sub?
Um, the 12 is bigger by 2 inches?
the 12 box will be bigger than the 10
the 12 will take more power than the 10
the 12 will be louder than the 10
the 12 will have a lower frequency response.
the 12 will cost more
the 12 will look cooler

I'd go for the 15 10" is for mid-bass......

I think the 2ohm will allow more upgradeability. You are looking to spend 300 total?

Any Brands you want?

No brands in mind. Just looking for good bang for the buck.

a 12 inch sub would make a big more bass than a 10 but since space is importent in your case and you dont feel the need to shake your car to pices a 10 will work just fine.

i like the 10 inch pioneer TS-W251R there around $100 brand new and sound great for the price

for an amp you could pair it up with the pioneer (GM-3300T) there around $130 if you want a brand new amp

if you buy an 8 gauge wiring kit to power it i think this setup will meet your budget almost exactly

you could also decide to pay more for a bit better sub and buy a used amplifier from the buy and sell section on this forum


i ran the above subwoofer setup in my truck as my first system ever and i was very impressed with the sound for such an inexpensive setup.
