Cool Sub On The Roof?

Is it possible? I think it's done, if I'm not mistaken ...
But is it worth the pain of the actual install?

Only reason I ask is that I think it might be really interesting to have the bass within the vehicle coming from above you and around, as opposed to behind you ...

And it came to mind when I spotted all the thin subs that are out now, such as MTX Thunder Thin 6512

bass being omnidirectional, I don't think it would make that much of a difference, other than being right in your ear-hole. I'm thinking it would be more of a distraction than anything, but hey...why not try it out?

I agree with bass being omnidirectional, and you'll probably enter a new world of rattling. Not to mention I'm not sure what you would mount the sub to, since you can't screw to the roof with out screws popping through the top. Maybe welding bolts.

Hmm ... subs to the pillars?
Instead of eye-level pods in the doors, how about 8" subs?

I don't know ... somebody needs to do something crazy

How about a 50-inch diesel-powered subwoofer?

161DB's at 16hz

Free air? You'd better have a tall and aftermarket roof lol.

Make the box ON the roof, outside the vehicule, and hack a hole in the metal to poke your sub through. :P

Isn't that what those rooftop cargo carriers are designed for?

Most cars can't tolerate losing 4" or more of headroom, although the headliner in my Hearse is almost 6" from the roof in the front....

I would hate to be in a crash in a car that had a subwoofer enclosure fastened to the ceiling.

Apparently there is a Monster energy drink promo truck running around that has the woofers in the ceiling. From what I hear it really effs up the sound - not that you really worry about it in a promo car..
