Hey guys,

I'm a pretty big newb to car audio, so i'm just wondering your opinions on what the best subs would be to run off a BP1200.1, keeping a university student's budget in mind (500 CDN range)....

also I'm primarily looking for a 'brand name' sub, just cuz IMO customer service etc. is much better when it's a big company and you can go into a shop and give them hell face to face...

it's the only reason that keeps me a little weary from ordering stuff like eD, although their stuff looks beautiful..

HU is Clarion DXZ745
Front Stage DLS Component set...
looking for SQ as well not just SPL

TIA guys!

You could probably find 2 Kicker S12L5 subs for under $500. If you got the 2 ohm models you could wire them so that the amp gets a 2 ohm load. Thus the subs would be getting around 600 watts each. I think the S12L5's are rated at 500 watts so that'd be a nice configuration.

The L5's will pound and will also give some nice SQ in the right enclosure. Kicker is a great name too so you should be fine in the customer service realm.

I'm running a single S12L7 with 1000 watts going to it and it's a fantastic sub.

Well I say you go with eD's if your willing to wait. I still think you should order the other subs.

I think you may be able to get a pair of Kicker Comp VR12's for under 500 but not sure. That's what I would do. Need a fair sized box though.

Maybe a used set of JL 12W3's or maybe the JBL GT series?

lol, i know but i'm just paranoid something will **** up with the eD's or the other ones, and then i'll be left shipping my subs all over the place trying to get them fixed...

i know i know i'm paranoid, but i'd rather have a store that i can go in and bitch at if need be...

All the concerns people raised in this thread are mainly the reasons i don't buy eD or the others...

http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/ubb/...c;f=3;t=008991

so say if i were to pick from the following brands what should i get...
Clarion
JL
Audiobahn
Alphasonik
DB Drive
Alpine

I think that's all i can think of for now from this one shop... and anyways doesn't install make a bigger difference than the subs you're running..? (within reason of course)

With subs its not as much install but it does matter. You have heard my stuff alex and you know I have been abusing them and I havent had a problem so come to the darkside.

If i was to go with a mainstream brand it would prolly be JL but you would be hard pressed to find somethign to fit ur budget and power from JL.

Hah, it's funny you mention DB Drive. I had a single 12" Db Drive in my first setup going to a Db Drive amp. For the money you pay for that equipment Db Drive makes an excellent product.

Not sure if that helps you I wanted to throw in my support for Db Drive...
