In a buick century I got 2 12" pioneer 500 watters wired to 2-ohm, not sure of the model, in a sealed box, powered by a kenwood 550W @ 2-ohms, on a dual deck ($20/walmart), when the subs are being pushed for awhile they'll cut out driving or parked, I turn the deck off for a bit, and they work again. Battery draining, amp being overloaded....??????????????????????????

 

Heat issue? It is just your subs that are cutting out right? What is powering your mains?

When that happens check your amp. If it has a protection light, is the light 'on' at that point? If it doesn't have a light, touch the heat sink. Is it really hot? If yes, your amp needs to cool down so it doesn't turn into a BBQ.

Where is your amp located? Does it have air circulation? Is it mounted flat, on an angle or upside down? Possibly consider buying a cooling fan . . .

 

A different possibility:

Perhaps the remote line on the Dual deck has a difficulty sustaining power for a long period, especially when the deck is pushing the fronts hard; and perhaps the remote line simply craps out after a period of time. This would cause your amp to shut off.

The next time your amp shuts down, check the status of your amp immediately. Leave the stereo on while checking. Check the power light, the protection light, and the temperature and let us know what you've found.

 

Sounds like your gain is to high on the amplifier.
Turn your "gain/not volume" **** down and see if that works.

 

make sure your power and ground connections are solid... also a good possibility youve got shorting wires or tinsel leads...

 

Yet another possibility, the fuse on the amp wire(not the amp itself), I have had an issue once or twice, that it would heat up, seperate, then cool down make the connection again and work until it seperated again!! IT took me ALONG time to figure this one out!! Just personal experience thats all, the others have suggested some good things

 

It's just the subs that cut out (Of 46 volume notches, taking low and continuous bass, it'll cut out at 42 and above, any less, she's fine) EDIT: it'll stay on full volume for AWHILE before cutting out..it happends about once a day. Stock front's and no rear fill, powered by the deck (unsure of power). The amp is mounted on the back of the box, it is like this " | ". I turn it off for a bit and it works again. The first thing I thought of was a heating problem. There isn't air circulation, it's in the trunk. I live in Canada and it's still uber cold out, so I don't know what I'ma do in the summer

KillerKlown, it sounds like the same problem. The fuse under the hood for the amp sometimes blew, my friend said the fuse was 'wiggling out' from the bass LOL - no. The connections should be solid, it was installed professionally by EHR....BTW, the gain is +18 (full) @ 40hz (lowest)...MIIIIIGHT have something to do with it, but I did that so I could turn down the bass on the deck, so the front's didn't distort (stock). If the subs take 1000W total and has only 550W going to it.....what happends there? Bad things? AHHH!!!

I can almost guarantee it's the amp-wire fuse actin' a fool...........

I'm thinking it's the amp not being able to handle the 2ohm mono load. Next time it shuts off, go touch it and see how hot it is.

 

2-ohm subs can't be run on a 2-ohm amp (550W)? I never was good @ knowing ohm load. Today it didn't shut off at all, and it was cranked.
