System upgrade in 91 buick century

My dad is thinking of getting a system upgrade from his shitty stock stereo. I know some about audio. I told him he would need deadening, a new deck, a component set, subs, a box, two amps, a wiring kit, possibly a better battery, and maybe a farad cap. He wants to be on a budget around $1000-1500. I came up with:

http://ascendantaudio.com/poly_6.5_page.html 6.5" component set

http://ascendantaudio.com/assassin12specs.html 2 12" assassins which are $75 US each and would cost 170+shipping which isn't bad (4 cuft port @ 32hz. Each are 350W rms, and I guess I'd put a 600W 2 channel amp on them.

http://ascendantaudio.com/arsenal15specs.html or 1 15" arsenal ($250 US), a box 3.5 cubic feet ported @ 30hz, with a 750W amp.

I know nothing about decks amps or farad caps and whatnot. What do you think of these products? To my understanding the assassins would have more cone area (the sd is 480 for 1 12", and 860 for 1 15") and have more potential for being louder? Could you suggest some budget SQL products? Thanks.

Any particular reason you are looking at a forum brand of the month for equipment? There are lots of great options to choose from. Keep the options open at this point in time. Your dads tastes in tonal response is going to be radically different than the flavour of the month.

I wouldn't bother putting a aftermarket system in a car like that but to each their own. That coming from somebody with a 91 Olds Eighty-Eight Brougham.

It's not the 'flavor of the month'. I've wanted those drivers since the first day they introduced them. They are cheap and have gotten good reviews

Pyramid is cheap and has gotten great reviews as well, same with Audiobahn and Sony, even a factory Bose system! I thought that this system was for your dad and not you? What your dad wants is going to be far different than what you want. Get your dad to come on and ask some questions and see how the system design is going to differ. Any commando can write a review, please realize that. If I were you, a review is the last thing that I would look at in my building of a system. I would want to go with the correct items for the task at hand and that is where having experience trumps a commando every single time.

It's funny that on the forums, the flavour of the month is always the one that is cheap as that is what the commandoes can afford. Then a new flavour comes along and it is on to the next great thing. Just watch as there are a couple of new flavours coming real soon.

What may be good for one commando might not be good for you dad and what he needs to complete his system properly. Perhaps he wants to keep his business in Canada and values warranty? These should be an important point in making your decision as well as the types of products he needs to complete his system.Slow down some and consider the alternatives.

You can build a great system for your dad, all you have to do is find out what he is after instead of what you want him to have. Does dad want a 15" sub and the monster box that takes up the trunk back there? Does dad want to have to wait for warranty and pay for shipping and $ conversion to the US both ways when the sub blows on him? Keep the options open dude.
