Are there any C5 Corvette owners here?

I'm looking to redo the system in my 98 Corvette and was wondering if there are any other C5 owners on here who might be able to make some recommendations for me?

I want to go with a relatively simple and inexpensive setup, so my plan is to go with a decent 6.5" components set in the doors, and then a small sub in the back. I prefer tight bass, so I was looking at going with a single 8" or 10" sub. One of the things I was considering was the Infinity BASSLINK self amplified system. It's got a single 10" sub and doesn't need a big space to work well so I could tuck it in one of the three storage compartments in the back of the car.

If I went with that, then I could just go with a small 2 channel amp to drive the components. If I didn't get that self amplified sub, then I was considering just going with a single 4 channel amp which would power everything.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get the installation done by a friend of mine who did the last system for me (in a 95 Firebird Formula) or if I'd get it done professionally. I live pretty close to Selective Sound actually, I'm only about 2 or 3km up the road from them.

Any advice?

That setup sounds okay. i would go with a 10 inch tho. If I was you i would look into something like a JBL stealth box or a custom fiberglass encloser for the sub, that way you could maximize on space and it would look alot better than an mdf box.

The problem with the JL Audio stealthbox is that it's expensive! It's about $600 US, so you know that means it'll be about $1000 CDN. That's almost my entire budget! (I was hoping to do it for under $1500 total)

I'm sure I could do a single sub for much less than $1000.

I've instaled alot of stealth boxes and love the sound of each one. The thing I dont like about the stealthbox for the "vett'" is that you have to cut the factory carpet. The thing wont fit without trimming the bottom carpet in the storage compartment.
$600 isn't alot for that piece. Its all fiberglass and built amazing.Ive been to ther manufacturing facillity in Miramar Fla. and would recomend there products to anyone.

If I could find a used C5 stealth box that would be perfect, as I do believe it's an incredible piece, it's just too much $$$ for my budget.

It's not too late to get another one, this time of year there are tons of bargains out there, since Vettes are hard to sell in the middle of winter.

Why not build one out of Fibreglass..

I bought the caraudiohelp dot com fibreglass DVD set - built my own fibreglass door pots and spare tire well and saved lots of money doing it..

All you need is a heated garage or wait till its warm out.. Search the forum and you will see lots of posts on doing this.

One of the guys from the Corvetteforum has offered to build me the enclosure (and install the entire system too) and he's got quite the nice setup in his Corvette too, so he knows what he's doing.

He has suggested I go with a single 12" sub, and he's going to build a good setup for that (not sure what he's got planned yet but when he gives me more details I'll let you guys know)
