I plan on starting to manufacture H/O Alternators, and i'm ordering parts this week.
i'm checking to find what my first order quantity should be.
i will purchase used cores for the cases, but install new rotors, stators, rectifiers, brushes.
mostly GM CS144 175+200AMP,and CS130-130D 140+180AMP.
i could also do same-day service for odd units(send me your old one,and i'll beef it up)
Internet sales make life simple.
What do you think??

good idea, most stores have no idea how to sell you a high output alternator. I confused the canadian tire parts guy by sugesting he look up any gm alternator instead of the specific one for the car...

Definately a market. There are numerous manufacturers in the US. If you can build a quility product, offer it at a competitive price and market it well then you should be able to do well with it. I know I am holding back on building a bigger system because I need a bigger alt and buying one from the US costs and arm and a leg in duties/brokerage and shipping. Any idea what kind of target price you would be thinking?

Gettnbig - there shouldn't be any duties on car parts. At least, that's what I've heard (but this seems to change all the time)

I would say that if you could market competitive alts in the 200 amp range at a good price, this forum would be enough to hook up a few competitors with your alts and then the word-of-mouth would give you a bit of business while you either spend the dough on improving your alts (remember, racing improves the breed) or promoting them more.

Good Luck in your venture.

There is a market for them! I know because I need 3 of them. Seams like most can't do the work or cost so much. I'm looking into going from ( don't laugh now ) 30 amp to 150 in the Mini. Don't know if the engine can drive it. 1 thing at a time. Send me a note was thinking of upgraiding next month.

I know there has always been a demand for import HO alternators too (honda/nissan/toyota etc)..

Good luck!
