Tint -- need advice and recomendation.

Hey guys;

So, since I now have a baby, we have gone and bought a Sienna. And even though we have a minivan now, we are still cool.

It didn't come with tinted windows, though; and it sux if the sun is in her eyes when she's trying to sleep.

Toyota wanted 399$ to tint the van; I don't know if that's reasonable or not (never had to price out tint before).

So. . .I need them tinted. I need a quality job so the thing doesn't bubble out after a few years.

Is the Toyota price reasonable, or should I go elsewhere?
IF I should go elsewhere, does anyone know any place to recommend?
Also, is there any info I should know while I'm shopping? Look fors? Ask abouts?

Thanks in advance for any insight you guys can provide.

Jay

a friend of mine own's a tinting shop and would charge no more than $250 for a minivan....and he uses Llumar brand tint which is probally the most durable "thick" and doesnt turn purple with age, unlike some cheaper brands...So if your going to get tint done, make sure they dont use cheap crap, all glass should be tinted in one piece and should cost no more than $300 total. Btw i also used to do tint, so trust me on this!!

I dont mean to jack the thread but I am also looking to get my new car tinted, I have the same conserns as canuckerjay but have also heard that it is best to do it in the summer so that all the water under the tint evaporates properly and does nut bubble when you use your rear defrost in the winter (that is one of my main worries)

Yes,
Best to get it tinted in warmer weather. As for price, prices mentioned are about right. Especially for a mini-van. Mini-van is actually much easier (less labour in a sense) to tint, although it has larger/more windows. The glass surface is usually easier to tint. So more cost on film more for vans.

So do you believe that there is a good likelihood of something bubbling if either of us were to have it done now? Any specific shops that you recommend over others?

if you want to make the trip, go to the detail doctor in Port Perry. He is very when it comes to his workmanship as he believes one bad job could ruin his reputation! if he does tint in the winter, he has the car in his heated shop until the glass is warm enough then cleans it.

a soapy water solution aka film-on is used for setting the film then it is squeegeed out from under the film and all pockets removed, a heatgun is also used to help shrink the film to the glass. after that, being out in the cold wont affect the film as there is no moisture between it and the glass.

Just be sure not to open the windows for a few days as you may peel the film and it DOES take longer to set in the cold but taking precautions will save you.

On RedFlagDeals we always get together for a group buy on Auto Tint ... talking hundreds of members, all different types of vehicles and picture reviews and feedback, months and years later.

Shop we use? Auto Links (in Scarborough)

You won't be disappointed. I don't work for them, nor have I had my car personally tinted by them, but I think the sheer volume speaks for itself.

(From the site) - Group buy NO LONGER applies
Installer:
John @ Auto-links
1066 Birchmount Rd. Scarborough. M1K 1S4
416-751-8883
Website

Group buy price ($20 off regular price): if we have over 20 people
2 Door Cars from $150-20 = $130
4 Door Cars from $170-20 = $150
Vans/SUV from 220-20 = $200
Wagons from $190-20 = $170
Front Doors Only (vehicles with rear windows tinted) from $70-20 = $50
Tint Removal from $80-20 = $60

Your choice.

tintking was one of the shops I was looking at online, the other was audioheaven?
I looked at some pictures on their web site and I think I want 20 or 25 (the 30+ didnt look very good on the white car)
Based on my RFD experiences the guys on there care strictly about price...
