Question titan remote starters - any good? plus other questions

I've personally always stuck with compustar, but my bro is lookin for a starter for his 2006 dodge 1500 (auto). It's got the stock remote locks and alarm jazz. I've had excellent luck with my compustar (about 5ish city block range)

Can he have both? starter and stock alarm? Sounds like he'll need some bypass module as his key has some sorta computer chip in it. Does this bypass module disable the alarm? would door locks still work off the original remote/key?

He's been lookin at titan starters due to some feature of being able to text your vehicle to start it. That does sound cool, though i don't totally understand how it works. Whats the deal, how do they relate to compustar or viper??? Note: He'll likley go for a two way starter.

any guesstimates on the install of a starter for that vehicle (before the price of the starter itself?)

Tell him to keep to Compustar. Yes he will need a bypass module to do remote start. The new alarm + bypass will also control the factory alarm. The factory locks will still work off the original key. Install depends on the level of quality or Kwality you are expecting. A full soldered in and covered install is going to cost far more than the 3m scotch lok surprise from hell that inevitably will cause a failure at some point down the road.
