I put a post up a couple weeks ago about the system I have slowly been putting together.

I now have a crappy Pyramid PB880 amp, Infinity 652i's 6.5's, Pioneer DEH-P4500.

I still haven't got an amp or subs yet for it but got an offer from a buddy recently for a MTX 1000D Amp for 350CDN (is this a good deal).

My question is if I run a single Sub in a sealed enclosure under the backseat of me truck (maybe a Pioneer TS-1041DVC) will this amp push to much power and distortion and have a drastic strain on my stock electrical system or should I be looking for a smaller amp.

Wanted to buy either a Lanzar Opti SL800D or a Visonik V800XD but haven't been lucky in finding a reasonably priced one of either yet.

I also hear that the MTX 1000D requires something like 1 or 0 gauge wire for it? not sure what that means.

Cheers guys

Jeff

That's way too much power @ 2 ohms ... However, I bet if you run that amp @ 8 ohms (Wire the sub in series), it will be fine AND you'll have an awesome amplifier if/when you decide to upgrade

It's a good deal if it works ...

So Jmac your opinion is I should go for it and spend the money and grab this amp and wire my single sub for an 8ohm load (I know the Pioneer ts-1041dvc is rated 2 and 8 ohm just not sure if the amp can run at 8 ohm?)

Anyways opinions? This amp a good buy for the setup I'm plannin on for the money or should I just grab a smaller cheaper amp to run a single Sub in a sealed enclosure?

hehe an even better plan would be to buy a damn 10" EDesign Sub and put it in a sealed enclosure and run the amp at a 4 ohm load!

oh to have a money tree!

BTW... Anyone Think A Lanzar Opti 500.2 Would Be a Much Better Choice For the Setup I'm Looking At????????

The amp will run fine at 8ohm and I would choose the MTX over the Opti 500 even though the Opti's are good amps also.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Get the 1000D that is a awsome deal and when you are sick of the pioneers (which you WILL) you can get a real high quality 12 or something and have all the power you need. You cant get a better amp for that price. And go ahead and run your pioneer at 8ohms the MTX will just laugh and give it 200 watts or something. And also if you are running the 1000D at 8ohms i really don't think that 0 or 2 ga wire is nessesary i would use it though. But if money is tight you should be fine with 4 or even 8 ga power/ground wire.

I'd place the BD1000 right next to the MTX 1000D in terms of performance and reliability. Everything said still applies.

Red face

Just curious as to how someone can compare these amps based on performance and reliability. Unless you worked for both companies.

I'd also take the MTX over the RF, but that's because I've had a few bad experiences with RF and no bad experiences with MTX ...
