tricky amp situation

hey guys, i just finished installing my new system a couple weeks ago. ive got 4 infinity reference 6x9s and a jbl gt-4 12 inch sub through a jbl gto 5355 amp and 1.5 farad cap. and let me tell you i absolutely LOVE my infinities, and now im looking to upgrade my subs to something competition worthy.

with my next upgrade i want to continue running my 6x9s through the gto 5355 and replace my single sub with an amp and 2 12 inch subs.

ive decided on the sub(s) that i like, and im looking to order two jbl w12gti-mkII subs. they run DVC, 750 watt rms; but the tricky part is they're 6 ohm subs. so basically, i need an amp to run 2 of these guys but from looking online i cant seem to find a single amp that will do these guys justice, any suggestions?

also on a second note; with a system as such, should i just add a big-*** capacitor, or get a bigger alternator, or a new battery? i drive a 1995 buick lesabre

thanks muchly!

What kind of budget do you have for the amp and subs? Bigger alternator and battery as well as a BIG 3 upgrade

well i found an amp that i could run i think, a Hifonics Brutus BRZ2100... it puts 700 out at 4 ohms and is able to be wired in parallel for two dvc subs.

i found the two subs for 300 a piece on sonicelectronix.com. the hifonics amp for 400 as well. Ive ordered from this site before and they are great. so that puts my price range from about 1000 to 1400 for the audio, plus whatever is necessary for an alternator and battery.

what is a big 3 upgrade?

Are you open to some great options on subs? I have two left on sale of the Eclipse SW8210 and they deliver stunning results. I have a huge amp that would be a nice addition to the subs as well and it is in a league far above the entry level Hifonics stuff. The BIG 3 upgrade is the main wiring upgrade in the vehicle from the alternator to the battery for the + and - leads. You can't expect the system to work as advertised if it is struggling to get power from the alternator through tiny little wires. It will be a must do for you.

yeah i guess that makes perfect sense, same as running proper power cable to the amp.

what are eclipses on sale for? and which amp?

didnt know the hifonics was entry level. i was just looking through sonic electronix to find anything that would work to run two of the jbls. i dunno, based on reviews ive seen and the specs, im pretty sold on the jbl's, they seem pretty badass

The Eclipse subs are on sale for $350.00 each + gst and shipping, they are marked down from far above that. The subs have a 1 year warranty on them unless you melt the coils. The amp is a monster Macrom M1A1500D, 1500w rms into 2 ohms. The subs are 750rms and 4 ohms each. Another option is a single 12" sub if you are after copious amounts of bass that is.... The DD9512 would fit that bill perfectly. Kiss your rear view mirror goodbye should you go this route, it will be completely useless when you turn the volume up.

based on the price, specs, and reviews i think im going to go with the jbl subs; as well as the fact that my experience with jbl thus far has been phenomenal. how well would a gto 14001 push these? its rated for 1200 watts at 4 ohms with a built in low pass crossover. will that match up well with 2 of the 6 ohm 750w rms subs?

im not just after mad amounts of bass, but at the same time i am (i listen to primarily house music; dubstep, techno, trance, etc...) i want to get lots spl with little to no compromise on sq, so if running two of these should i pick up a sealed or ported box?

i have no intention of buying immediately... i just spent 600 dollars on my audio haha, need some time to recuperate... mostly making sure that when i do make the purchase in a couple of months i am making a purchase that will get me the results im looking for; as well as know the proper setup options

that if i wire them in parallel, correct? so then id be looking for something around 1200-1500 watts rms at 2 ohms?

No, you want an amp stable to 1 ohm as 1.5 ohms is less than 2ohms. Therefore look for an amp that delivers 2000+ watts at 1ohm, as the power will drop to a higher load...1.5 ohm..., so you'll end up with about 1500+ watts at the 1.5 ohm load. Generally, power halves as the load is doubled, so 2000 watts at 1 ohm will yield 1000 watts at 2 ohms, 500 watts at 4 ohm etc...
