Thank you Father for reminding me..

a good read is here

[URL="http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/support/AUTOMEDIA_CEA2006.pdf"]

a basic condition is:
Primary Output Power
is always expressed as watts RMS and
measured with 14.4V DC supply, a 4-
ohm load, and with 1% or less total harmonic
distortion in the amplifier’s output.

How many of us have 14.4 volts on tap in a car?

what does THAT have to do with anything in this thread? really?

you wont get same power even from identical amps, you are not supposed to.

stop posting stupidness.

A few point to consider:

The best way to measure power is with a wattmeter. If you are going to use a clamp and a DMM like most people you should use a non-inductive dummy load, otherwise your numbers are meaningless. THD can be measured with a PC and speakerworkshop which is a free pogram.

that's not true

a dummy load will give you a number that is meaningless since no amp is hooked up to a dummy load in the car.

If you want to measure the actual power delivered to a driver then you need to be able to account for power factor - and that's not something that will be easy to find...

Unless you have a wattmeter using a dummy load to is the best way to get meaningful numbers...

but like meaningfull in what sense? cuz as soon as you put that same amp in the car those power numbers become meaningless, no?

measuring an amp's power out put in a car isnt as hard as some of you make it seem. people take these measurments everyday and with simple math you can figure out power, imp, imp rise and many many other things that are not immediately displayed on whatever tool you are using. even the power factor........is very easy to find, there are a number of ways to solve for it. it is just math formulas!!!!!!!!!!

i like how you try to be smart (not that you aren't) and use fancy terms like "power factor" for simple concepts like efficiency.
