Trying to Figure out RMS/Peak W on a 6' MTX Magnum Sub
#1
Hey guys,
Long time no post here for me
Anyways, my brother picked up a 6" sub and box the other day 2nd hand for his '92 GMC Sonoma 4x4... It's an "MTX Magnum" 6" Sub and box" It's not the one specifically for this model though, it was in a Ford Ranger before.
I am trying to get an amp to pair up to this puny little thing, but need to know what kind of power handling it has. I realize it probably won't be very good, but he's just looking for a little bass in the truck, nothing crazy - can anyone help me out with specs on this 6" MTX Magnum sub, or give me some idea of how good (or ****ty) a unit it is?
If I pull the sub out of the box, will there be any markings on it I can use?
Thanks gang!

I will remove the sub from it's ported box tomorrow in an effort to uncover amodel number.
My next question - where is a good, cheap place in Calgary to get some power cable for an amp? I have RCA's, but I don't wannt shell out $60 for RF power cable @ SoundsAround

Alright everyone - I have taken pictures of the sub and box, so here they are!
I'll start off with the code on the sub - It says "8JB1134 4 OHM" on the first line, then the second one says "557 9707"
Also, it turns out it is an 8" sub, not a 6" - At least, when I measured it across the middle, end to end, it was 8"-something.
So, any guesses on some RMS/Peak Wattages folks?

Sorry to say but you will not acheive any kind of bass out of that box. We carry the newer model of those (with the older model road thunder sub) and they are a full range box with hardly any output below 60 hz. We get better bass response out of 6 1/2's in the doors with dynamat. That being said I would feed it a full range 50-75 watts.

You can low pass it and try it as just a sub, but don't expect even average results, those are designed as a full range box and it is very hard to get a single woofer and a horn twet to play over a large frequency, like I said it's not really a subwoofer and output below 60 hz will be pretty low.
