I have often seen people run two sets of component speakers in the front doors of a car. I am wondering if there was any reason other than "show" to do this. Overtime willing I will be looking in to some new components soon. My initial opinion would be to spend the money on one set of really good speakers rather than two sets of mediocre speakers.

More specifically I have been looking in to the Alpine SPX-17PRO and SPX-17REF. Either I could get two REF's or one set of the PRO's.

Granted I could likely find a better product for the money however it's one of the only decent speakers for a decent price that I could audition in Kamloops. I am hesitant to purchase anything online if I can't hear them first.

I agree, one set of good ones.
More then one could sometimes be to help get more midbase. If running active sometimes people will run the second set of tweets higher in the a-pillars crossed over higher to make the soundstage at eye level.

Would you settle for auditioning something in a car vs. a sound board where you can only hope for the best? I will be returning a customers vehicle to him in Merritt when I am done with it in about 2-3 months time. If you are up for a small road trip he will allow you to have a look and a listen. I will not be posting too much info on the build until it is completed but it is exactly what you are interested in and then some. Hint.... Morel and 9" 3way components.....

well one obvious reason would be output. 2 sets of 6.5" comps at twice the power will be louder than one set. I'm not saying it'll sound better, though at high volumes the two sets should be able to hold their composure a little better, but it will get louder if properly installed.

Well who knows, I rarely know what I am doing 2-3 days in advance. While I would love to give you an assured yes I wouldn't have any idea if I would be free to get over there. Of course there is always the possibility and would love to if I am not working or being whipped in to submission from my wife. If you happen to remember come time for the trip to merritt give me a pm.

You know I really wish I had more (any) friends interested in car audio. I see so many brands online which would probably be a much better option than local brands but without the possibility to audition any of them can't pull the trigger to buy anything. Review are always so mixed due to personal preferance. Morel, Focal, CDT to name a few. Local options suck *** and I would never be able to get a kitchen pass to visit Vancouver to find some shops offering other speakers. I've went the route of visiting a sound off or two when they come to town but most of the rigs I see there are active or involve such high end components I would never be able to afford (unless I budget in a divorce as well).

You know what I just realized...I sound really whipped on my last post. Maybe what I should be asking is how other members on CCA convince their wives to allow copious amount of money and time in to car audio. Perhaps we should create a support group for the wives and girlfriends of car audioholics. WAGOCA (Wives And Girlfriends Of Car Audio Aholics)

You slap them and tell them to get back in the kitchen.

Mine doesn't have any problems with my audio obsession. She likes it because I let her listen to something she likes once in a while (on long trips).

you bargain...if she wants pretty shiny things, and fancy shoes...you get electronics! If that doesn't work...you get a divorce like I did. It's the best...fresh fruit, no bitchin, totally free to f**k my life up however i want!!!

I found it helped a lot when I started putting systems in the family grocery wagon....she gripes about the cost and the lost space in the back but once she gets to pound something she likes thru it the noise level goes way down......
