hey,
i have heard that by upgrading a stock alternator of 100 amps to about 160 amps, can cause fires due the extra heat present in the wires that connect to headlights extra. Is this true ?
I don't know if i should upgrade my alternator or buy a 20 farad cap. the only reason why im leaning towards the cap is because ive heard that upgraded alternators can cause fires.. please advice..
thanks

your headlight wires wont catch fire, they still pull the same amount of power as before. the only wires that will see more power are the wires of the alt. before you even get a bigger alt. or cap, do the big three! it will help alot. i just upgraded the batt-ground to a 0/1 gauge and most of my dimming problems went away.

what type of amps do you have? cause a 20 farad cap is really big, just like a really big bandaid really...

Stinger builds darn good alternators from the ground up. Most rebuilt alternators use the same case with a higher number of windings. As Dave pointed out it leads to a buildup of heat internally and eventual failure. What is the vehicle?

J.I., Message Loud Brown Kicker Colt, he can make alternators for about anything. "They" said that HO alts arent made for my car, but Loud Brown made them.
