So are these rules or not?

I sure would be pissed to follow the 'rules' and then see joe schmointheknow win becuase he knew who to talk to about bending the 'rules'.

See I guess this is the part that rubs me the wrong way. Dave you have commented a couple of times how you are building to the "Letter of the rules" but then go on to explain how you have 'interpreted' them to suit your fancy.

That's fine, build your car how you like, technically the rules aren't being 'violated' (however I would argue they are not being complied to either) but is this not the very thing you used to say was so 'wrong' in the competition circles? Shoe on the other foot feel better?

And before everyone blasts me again - remember that I am the one arguing that the rules be followed implicitly.

I have found the USACi rules to be pretty black and white. They post them on line and clearly enforce them at shows (some shows more closely enforced than others). I have had some BS thrown my way but the judges are generally an agreeable lot.

^ I would agree that they seem to be very black and white. I like black and white. IMO if there is a question whether something is in compliance or is not then it usually is not.

dukk, im not trying to argue with you at all, i have always said that i dont like alot of the rules, and continue to think that. the rules are put in place for a reason, but the rules arent always black and white, they (usac) ore always making amendments to the rules to make grey areas more clear, if you build your sytstem by the word of the rulebook you can be very competitive, try and manipulate the rules to your advantage(bend not break), which by the way is done in every sanctioning body, and you run the risk of perhaps losing points, dont want to risk that, leave the ebrake alone, leave the winshield wipers alone, do the alternator modification, put the wire in conduit, strap the wire every 6" and you will have no problem. when it comes to the rules it is best to by the letter of the rules, any o ther way and you should get usac calrification from james(westec) as to the proper interpretation of the rules, then there is no problem, im not a big fan of the rules, never have been, never will, but they are there and always will be so that is why i had no choice, if i was giong to compete at a world class level, to conform, like it or not

Remember your car doesn't talk. It's your job to convince the judges that you deserve those points.

well put bootleg. remember its all about fun, when things get to carried away with a rule for this and a rule for that, then the sport is no longer fun!! try to be big about what the judges say and rule on, even if it dosent go in your favor, fix and be ready for the next show, eg. last yr i drove to a usaci show in saskatoon.1600km for me one way, there weather the night befor was a fricken hurrican, most of the cars wernt that clean, but i took my car to the car wash and was cleaning it up anyway, james came over to me and informed me that since the weather was brutal last night the he wasent going to judge on apperence, later, after the show he tells me that the car that beat me was so clean that he had to give him points for it, even though he told me not to worry about it, and my car was spotless to the point of !! i didnt bitch, wine or bad mouth james at all, thats the way it goes sometimes, DEAL WITH IT. believe me at the next show in kamloops, my beautiful wife took my car up and took 1st place, and she spit shined my car even though it was raining out!! i guess what iam trying to say is stop worring about what is happening to everyone eles and concentrate on your own ride. things in the end will always work out, they always do. remember fun!fun!fun! and thank a vet for your freedom.
