USAcoustics amps, how are they?
#5
well this was basically what i was told:
modle USA4050
50W x 4 ch
good little amp for speakers
$65
and size is approx. 12"x7"
hmmm, interesting, i think i'll hit u up on that. Do you happen to know much or have experience with Orion amps, something along the HCCA series, 425.
I was told they have selectable xover cards/chips or something like that

Just so it's clear, not all USAcoustics amps were made by ZED. The older one's were and then they turned to quite low quality. The older ZED made amps were good solid performers.
As for the HCCA series; what do you want to know?
First gen HCCA425's had no crossovers. See the manual here:
http://www.orioncaraudio.com/Support/Manuals/Amplifiers/HCCA%20Series/Orion%20425HCCA%20Installation%20Manual(G1).pdf
Second gens had crossover's but they were a pain in the butt. It's basically a series of jumpers that you put in the correct configuration to select the crossover point you desire. See manual here:
http://www.orioncaraudio.com/Support/Manuals/Amplifiers/HCCA%20Series/Orion%20425HCCA%20Installation%20Manual(G2.3).pdf
Any other questions let me know.

Ok, well i noticed they were alittle differnet when the seller stated it's has a selectible chips for the xover and that confused me.
Basically what i know is that their a great high current amp, with 0.5ohm stereo stability and 1ohm mono stable. I know it's a 425 model and it's pretty big from when i saw them in back in the day. as well don't look to bad either. I'm pretty sure it's a 2nd gen but i haven't seen it yet.
Also he's selling it for $150 and thought it was a good deal, but just wanted to find out some more info/opinions on it. I guess is it really any good or should i look at something else.

If it has selectible chips it is the newer gen model. They had quad module slots for the crossover section.
These are basically two HCCA225's in the same heatsink. A very nice four channel amplifier. They will actually do a good deal more than the rated 25wrms per channel at 4ohm so don't let that spec scare you. If you are running some speakers that require a good amount of power though but they don't allow you to load down the amp (ie. a high-power comp set through the factory passives) this may not be the best amp for you unless you plan on running it as a two channel bridged. But just so you know these HCCA225's were good for a solid 500rms+ at 0.5ohm stereo/1ohm bridged so expect that amp to be capable of 1000rms total.
For $150 as long as the amp is functioning fine it is a steller deal.
