voice coil questions

okay so both my coils on my dvc4 typer are both read 4.1on the dmm, i checked today when my sub was out of the box and i put the sub back in the box after i failed on a box build today. and just went driving and the subs starting to smell again it did this a bit when i got it all hooked up to my new amp last sat, if the dmm says its 4ohms on each coild could i be frying the vc? or what could be causing the smell i had the smell wayy back in jan i hada thread about it and people said i was either blowing it or the break in and im sure it was the break in cuz after a while the smell went away.

You have dual 4 ohm Type R's. This is why each coil reads 4.1 on the DMM. How do you have the coils wired, series or parallel, only one? What is your final load at the amp after wiring the sub(s)? What is your amp gain setting at? Sounds like your clipping the sub, or the box is making it do some bad things and burning up the coil. Good luck with that!

Is a professionally built box to Alpine specs?

Have to say I'm not familiar with your amp. Does it have subsonic filter?

Assuming that you have it set correctly and its not clipping, beats me...
I had a similar problem when my subs were ported, but it was due to my subs unloading below the port frequency. Are you using any specific software to model these boxes?
