cujo you did not understand one thing i said. i never once said that the csp15 the w7. in fact what i said was that i would welcome the opportunity to go head to head, thats all. and i never once said that concept built every single piece of their subs themselves. by the way if you think that JL builds every single piece of their subs and doesn't just buy good parts from other people and assembles them, then you are far less informed then i thought you were from your first post. as for WCES i've been there and i know what goes on in this bussiness. i was in this bussiness when you were probably still in elementary. enough bitching for now. all i'm trying to give is my .02. if you don't like it don't give yours.

"by the way if you think that JL builds every single piece of their subs and doesn't just buy good parts from other people and assembles them, then you are far less informed then i thought you were from your first post"
My bad. JL engineered and built every part of the woofer, but dosen't manufacturer the pieces themselves now.
"Concept does not manufacture their specific parts BUT the assembled parts ARE the design and some items are indeed proprietary, ie built soley for their woofers <- relatively common in the manufacturing game"
As far as the assembled parts being their design, I wouldn't consider picking them out of a catalog and ordering them in blue to be designing.
"i was in this bussiness when you were probably still in elementary"
close, but I'm a little older than you think. I've met, talked to and worked with people who were around in the business when YOU were in diapers. They also happened to be some of the most mis and un informed people around.
"all i'm trying to give is my .02. if you don't like it don't give yours."
That would defeat the purpose of a discussion, wouldn't it? If we all listened to your 2 cents {and anyone elses for that matter} and didn't offer up our own, this forum would be a sad, boring place.

One more question though, how does one woofer "beat" another?

"...now come on guys, we all know that $800.00- $2000.00 is alot for a single sub, however purolate that price over the many years that it will perform for. now the price doesnt seem all that bad..."
ok - I have at least half a dozen woofers that are over 10 years old. They ranged from $99 to $299 new. They all work fine. I guess I missed the point of the high cost??

HUH? I believe you are confusing design and manufacture. Their woofers are unique - that means you will not find the same woofer with a different label on it. In order to be unique someone had to sit down and consider what they wanted to achieve with the woofer, what specifications it should have, and then what parts would achieve their goals. That IS design. Whether they then make the parts or order the parts is a manufacturing decision usually based on volume.
And as you conceded, JL does not manufacture their own parts in house either so your point is lost.

Concept dosen't design their parts. They pick the voice coil ***. , the magnet, terminals, the cone etc and then order them all up and have someone slap it together. They are making an educated guess as to how those woofers will perform.
JL designed AND did the original tooling of the W7 parts individualy each for a particular purpose and target end goal. That is design.

My point being the cost per year for a sub of its calibur isnt that bad. divide the 1000 dollar cost over 5 years the cost per year is 200 bucks, not a bad investment.
get what am i saying? or should i get into it a lil more
