What is with 1 ohm??

Just a Poll of thoughts?
Answer this.
If I have 3 amps
1000x1 @4ohm
1000x1 @2ohm
1000x1 @1ohm
Hypothetically they are AB amp with the exact same features.
Why is it People think that the amp that does 1 Ohm is better. The idea that your amp suck because it doesnt do 2 ohm or 1 ohm is getting tiresome.
What are some peoples thoughts on this?

i guess it's the perception that an amp produces more power at a lower ohm load. although they might inface produce same power at 4,2 and 1 ohm many people will stick to their perception that the 1 ohm amp will be the most powerfull b/c they think lower load = more power.
I know why u ask this b/c i come across ppl that think in a similar scenario the 1 ohm amp is always better.

In my opinion, it is more impressive for an amp to make 1000 watts at 4 ohms than at 1 ohm.
In reality, though, it's all about what suits your application best. Having an amp that makes full power at 1 ohm wouldn't help you much if you had, say, a pair of 8 ohm subs.

Your reading skills are great, I have learned that fact.
This thread is too shed light to the fact that many people believe lower inpedance amps are better. Morons or not, this is a large misconception that people believe.

Hate to say it, but from all of my years in this industry, most car audio sales guys fall into this category. They fall for whatever the rep tells them at the dinner and beer after the meeting where all sorts of prizes are handed out. It starts with how gullable or nieve people really are.

I woudl agreee with Strapping on that one, I'd take an amp that made more power into higher impedances and run it like that...
The perception of why people think the amp that makes maximum power is based on the fact that people have been led to beleive that amplifiers double their power output as the load impedance is halved. So, for more amps, maximum power occurs at 1 Ohm or less.
In reality, the quality of an amplifier has little or nothing to do with what load it requires to make maximum power.

i think a lot of people make the mistake of not knowong about impendances at all, and just buy an amp that puts out say 1000 watts. they dont even know if their subs are wired to 1 ohm, or 2 ohms or whatever, then wonder why thier subs arent louder with the bigger amp.
if you dont know what im trying to say, heres what i mean
somebody has a dual 2ohm sub, wired to either 1 or 4 ohms, then they go buy a rockford fosgate amp that puts out its max power at 2 ohms. so the person would be running it at 4 ohms, and not be getting full power from their amp. i see a lot of people doing this around where i live.
