I recently picked up a pair of 10" type r dual 2ohm subs. I am trying to figure out what amp to get and how to wire them. I dont want to put the rms watts into them...which is 300, I want something more like 500-600 to both. What should I do?

Find an amp that puts out 1000-1200 RMS at 2 ohms if thats what you want to put 500-600 watts to each.

so if i power them both with one amp its not a 1 ohm load? Or is it because its 2+2 voic coils so that makes it 2 ohm with one amp?...Sorry Im new to this and Im just trying to build my first system.

i dunno if id over power the subs if i were you...
Check out the wiring diagrams...
you can find them on sites like www.sounddomain.com to find your ohm configuration..
depending how you wire them, you can get them at a 2 ohm load or a 1 ohm...

dual 2 ohm subs, wired together is going to give you final ohm load of 2ohms or 8ohms (assuming i'm not 300% retarded).

So essentially you'll want something that does it's max output at two ohms. Might be worthwhile to look at an amp that (can't remember the term) but has equal oput no matter what ohm load it's run at. I know a buncha the JL amps do this. Possibly something like a JL1000 (someone correct me if i'm off in left field).

Personally, i run 800w and with that (dual 4ohm subs running at 1ohm in the end 12" type r's) if you push then too hard, you can smell (once anyways) burning voice coils. Now i've tried to get to the bottom of that, as to whether thats me sending a clipped signal to the subs, or just pushing them to hard. I was told a combination of hte two. But none the less, i haven't found them to like much more...granted thats just what i found.

Also maybe a jbl 1200.1 does 1200 at either 1 or 2 ohms, lil better priced than the JL stuff i believe, but doesn't give you a subsonic filter, meaning that if you plan to go ported, it may be a lil more work.

You also forgot that he could get .5 Ohms. (wire all in parallel)

Does that make you only 150% retarded?

2 2 ohm subs wired each vc is a 1 ohm load, that's what I have running my 2 L7 10's with 2400rms to each sub

I just want these loud and I heard somewhere that the 2 ohm type r's need more power, and the guy I bought them from said that you could put 700 into them. So if I want them to sound good and to last would it be more resonable to put 400-500 into them?

jordy-o that's what my L7's are dual 2 ohm VCs. I have each vc setup so 8g runs from each vc to the inputs on the amp... so I have 4 8g wires from one sub going into 1 amp....
