it sounds like a 4th order aperiodic chamber with fubar added...lol

dude if this is what u did and it makes you louder you are definately ingenious... you can even quote me on it... by any means that should not work properly... but for some stupid reason it could possibly work on a single frequency configuration if u tune the sealed box to play with the ported one ...

like chicken said...whack

I should port the sealed chamber, it might be even louder.

what would you call that?

how about a passive radiator in the sealed chamber instead of a powered sub? any name for that? any idea on how that would perform?

Hello

That sounds a bit different. As I understand the internal sub and external sub are not conected except for the air space they share.

So a sealed sub box (2nd order) and a ported sub box (4th order) if you put the sealed box inside the ported box it becomes a bandpass 6th order(maybe).

The subs would not work as a direct pair as in an isobaric design, they would work as two competing systems acting on each other. Is the idea of the internal sub to improve linnerarity or extra db.

I keep thinking of this design and feel that internal box needs to be ported into the next box to make a quasi bandpass 8th order.

If you have two internal subs matched with the external ones and have two out of phase you should get some huge air movment (twice-ish X-max) But how you calculate this box and port size I don't know.

No i can't figure it out i'm going to have to build one. unless you're giving it a go you can let us know.

There was a speaker company in the late 80s/early 90s called "Blues". They offered a premade box with a single 12 and a pair of 8s IIRC that sounds a lot like this. I'll see if I can round up a pic...

I seem to recall some kind of home theatre sub that sounded sorta like this. Used two small drivers in the front chamber, and between the front chamber and rear chamber on the inside was another larger, single driver. Might have been just a passive radiator too. That would be akin to an aperiodic type of enclosure IMO.
