what is a good deck for a good price

don't go for all glitz and glamour. save some of it for the quaity as well. i personally would choose alpine for a deck...second choice would be pioneer, if you want a little more flashy whistles and bells go with pioneer, but if your lookin for the quality head with alpine.
actually, i think a&b sound has some good sales on right now to get rid of stuff before xmas, ckeck them out if you have one in the area.

I've used the Panasonic 8300 and it was awesome.
I've also used mannnyyy Pioneer decks and haven't had a single problem with one of them.
I've used a couple of Alpines, and honestly was not impressed.
In the end it goes down to personal preference though.

Remorses buying something to a higher price tag that we expect at first only last a few minutes. The time it takes to make the deal.
But regrets to not having fork the extra bills for a superior piece of gear (if you can afford it obviously) could last forever.
I second Monte04ss on that one, be patient (wait for the money) and buy the Alpine 9833. It is the same machine as the 9835 except the display and it cost about $100 less.
It does absolutely everything you could want and more. MP3, Bass engine pro (crossover with adjustable slopes, time alignment) EQ, etc... and Alpine are well known to make really solid and good sounding head unit.
I am not saying that Alpine 9833 is your only choice but I think it is the best performance/features/price ratio right now on the market.
I don't know in Edmonton but in Montreal, the 9833 is about $430 and the 9835 about $525.
