Red top gives you more output (I have witnessed a 1-3 db increase in some systems), but it will not put up with extreme abuse like above

Hey, hey, it's over 20 years now, not 15. I read his comment both ways but to some people it reads only one. Had I not known the person who posts and how he sometimes words things, it might have been a different story.

The bad part is after spending the time and money, you still have the same problem you did when you started. Now you have just added another load to the electrical system that was having problems keeping up with the demands of your sound system in the first place......
Replacing wires is the cheapest and first step you should make. If you still have dimming lights, a new Optima type battery dedicated to the system, and a higher output alternator should take care of the problem.
IMHO caps with those nifty digital displays are pretty to look at, but as a solution to a power supply issue.....not so good....
Hey now i never disagreed with adding an other battery. In one of the last trucks i built a 2000 Sonoma. Stock battery up front, 100Amp continuous IC battery separator, 0GA to a red top, through a cap to the amp, the red top also ran 3 25amp air compressors and all the relays for the whole truck.
I should show you all pics of this trucks previous setup. it had 4 batteries, no caps, the worst wiring i have ever seen in my whole experience installing. We found melted switches because of the lack of relays, burnt wires, (no ring terminals on anything, and the lights dimmed with all that.
After it left here with the Big three done, and only one battery and a cap, that truck could pound the system with the truck off for about 6 hours and still have enough juice to fill the tanks and start the truck. On the stock alternator.
So, I do agree with doing the Big Three, and adding a battery, but adding a cap, i mean all the cap really does is help the battery on the heavy bass notes right. So i can't really hurt it to try.

You know what bottom line is you get what you pay for. The Yellow tops in my eyes are the best battery going. Some say the Orbital, or Excide or blah blah blah are just as good at a lower cost. I say BS. I have a Yellow top running in a vehicle for over 6 years never gone dead always starts my vehicle and runs the amps fantastic. So for that I say you get what you pay for. If your short coin save up abit more and get a Yellow top.
optima's will also last twice as long as a lead acid battery... so if it is twice the price, big deal... my battery will no doubt outlive the car I'm driving.... then I'll just pull that battery out and keep running it..
