Yeah, I would see 1 cap per 1000rms watts not 500rms seems more realistic but then again I wouldn't add a cap until everything was all upgraded properly first. I have a buddy running a 90 talon Stock alt with some POwer Acousik amp supposedly putting like 700 rms * 2, with a couple Db+12's and he's adding a 2nd battery and 2 caps for it.. He's a dumb ass and thinks it will make everything perfect told him he's better of doing rebuild on the alt to higher output but he knows all.

Don't bother with Caps.

I fell for the marketing once, I'm not a sucker twice.

i already have a rebuilt h.o. alternator. stock is 90a and my rebuild is 120a
i know that's not huge, but jumping up 30a and being able to keep the stock housing is good for me.
my plan is to dump my 1 farad cap and replace it with a 2 farad cap. i won't be running two 1 farad caps.

thanks for the advice guys, it will be helpful for me in the near future.

i've got a question..

instead of a 1F cap, could i just buy a second car battery and hook it up in the trunk with a 0 guage wire going from the battery under the hood to the second battery in the trunk and then just hook up the system from the trunk battery?

would that be better than a 1 farad capacitor?

I would add a second battery before a cap if your system has trouble keeping up. I would recommend you isolating the front battery purely for the fact lots of people run there systems in parking lots with the engine off.

When I add a second battery I will replace the front stock battery at the same time as buying the new one for the trunk. I will always buy the same brand and size as well.

Nothing wrong with caps if they are installed properly and not used as a bandaid for poor electrical systems.

i have a 95 neon with the same alternater for a lonnngggg time. i bet it sucks.

my battery is the cheapest one available from canadiantire... its a surestart or soemthing.

so my electrical system sucks and im not going to upgrade it.... so would a second battery be my best option? or would a cap be a better idea?

with your system i would do the big 3 upgrade and throw a really good battery under the hood. caps suck get an optima or an orbital under the hood. with the power upgrade and a sexy battery you probably wont even need a cap. the best thing would be to have a kick ass battery upfront and another one in the back. much better than a cap cause a battery doesnt steal power like a cap it gives power cause its got alot of power to give.

When will people learn that a battery and a capacitor are solutions to different problems? They both have valid uses in a car audio system but those uses are not the same..

ChizzerZ24 11-03-2004 02:19 PM

Yeah, I tried explaining that to my buddy but he's a tool that way, he just bought to optima batteries to install into his car..so it must make things all better.

what would be the best option for me?

ill have a 800rms audiobahn amp and 2 12s.

my car battery and alternator totally suck. replacing them is not an option.

i know it will affect my car for sure because when i had a 400rms sony amp and 2 alpine type s 10's my lights where dimming and such.

so replacing the battery or alternator is not an option...

whats my best option?

buy a 2nd battery? 1F cap? 2F cap?
