What makes for a good FM tuner?

Hi!

I'm interested in learning more about what to look for in FM tuner specs that would tell me that the FM tuner is good or garbage (relative term). I am not interested in Sirius or XM Radio and want to make my next head unit purchase one that provides me with something that I don't regret.

I'm not new to the car audio world, but i've never once payed attention to the FM tuner specs in manufacturers' literature. Does anyone have any bookmarked links handy they would care to share perhaps? Or perhaps give a few pointers? For whatever reason my search skills are leaving me empty-handed with this one.

Btw, i'm new to the site - hello.

Thanks!
Andrew

EDIT - I think I should have put this in Technical. Apologies! Won't happen again.

Yes, thank you, it helps.

Myself so far i've been surprised that my past Pioneer and Premier units, which are generally regarded as not as good, have always achieved better FM reception that my latest Alpine (CDA-9835). Alpine's top-of-the-line headunit from a few years ago outdone by a 14+ year old basic Pioneer unit - go figure.

Then again i've heard a basic Kenwood unit and it was better than those (yes, in the same car).

This is why I wanna know what to look for.
