Hey guys whats up, Just was wondering the general concensus on what makes an install stand out for you.

For me i personally dont like too many painted panels, i think its excessive and overly flashy, however ive seen one or 2 that ive really liked (Alpine Demo's). I like a good mix between vinyl and paint i think it looks classy.

Another thing is to have subtle and well placed curves in the install, I also like a symetrical install, its nice to see things clean and with purpose.

lastly but definately not least is neat wiring, appropriate hardware use and just plain neatness.

I ask this question because i open a magazine these days or i go to a show and every body has painted this painted that it gets repetitive, I think its time to see a classy install for once, i havent seen one in quite some time. I miss the cars which were designed with purpose and just elegant and simple.

attention to detail in installation, no zip ties holding fuse holders, everything nice and secure, wires neat, organized, and tidy. Properly placed component speakers, no visible wires.
as for finishing touches like paint, vinyl etc.., it's up to you and the installer.

I like 'adult' installs.

By that I mean basically what you do, classy stuff, clean lines, subtle distinguishing characteristics.

Brute power asometimes goes well too.

I think it should be integrated into a car's attitude, too. An over the top ricer install in a HEMI isnt going to do it for me, and an exceedingly clean install in an old CRX that s riced out isnt going to really 'mesh' either....because it would look like an old civic, hehe.

I think finding a balance is best, in my mind.

But I do think the idea of a 'grown up' install is something that only will ever appeal to the 'older' consumer, and thus only really work or a niche market.

Younger, and some older, people will always want their neon with logo headrests with rotating disco ball gas caps, etc....its just how it is, the same way my parents (and some more senior members) wanted their racing stripes on the vista cruiser or fat *** tires on the back of their 4-door chevy's.

What makes an install stand out to me is one that I can't figure out what has been changed on the vehicle to make it sound so good.

Cars that I appreciate:

Tim's Buick Regal, I think the trunk is amazing.

Per Soder's Golf is absolutely sterile in exicution the way Tim's car is.

Steve Brown's E36 M3, more flash, but he did something with his front stage that I really like.(Nice processor too!)

Ron Buffington's BMW, classy car from a classy guy.

With all of these vehicles, they have something that is done with an emphasis on perfection. None of them are perfect in all areas, but there are areas of each car that I would deem perfect.

Specific points of interest:
-Pieces that are engineered to perform more than 1 task. For example; modules with controllers or fuses that use integrated connectors to facilitate easy installation or removal.

-Pieces of equipment that are integrated INTO the car. That is, they are behind or incorporated into body trim panels.

-Trim panels that upgraded in textiles, yet still integrate into the the car without drawing attention.

-Quiet cars. Use of controls, panels, doors, and system accessories is silent. Sure doors make some noise when they close...but I like it when it's solid.

-Long term system integrety. I'm talking about building systems that don't decrease the lifespan of the car chasis, or it's components. That encompases chassis, and electical systems.

-Ease of use, and low maintanance. Having parts that are hard to keep clean, and difficult ergonomically to use is a PITA. Build things that your wife can use without asking for help.

Crap, my install has got a lot to live up to!

for me its all about integration. Less is more is what I like. I like to look into a car, and it look completely stock. Then you pop open a few access hatches and see glimpses of equptment mounted nicely.

The more OEM looking the better. I like rough looking pieces, stuff with bare metal or aluminum showing. No fiberglass or painted pieces for me.

Muhahahhhaha, I'm not saying anything...my lips are sealed

I think a great install should be choked full of neon and chrome.....with a bizillion LED lights and flashy whirly gadgets that do absolutely nothing but dick up the look of people's installs.

its definately creative but not my cup of tea.

I wonder if the good ole days would ever come back where purpose was the driving force behind installs, not just to see how many tv's you can cram into a car.
