what sounds better...good underpowered subs or cheaper sub and well powered?

like the title says i am in a debate right know ...

currently i have the Alpine MRD-M1001 amp(1000rms) powering 2 10" infinity kappa perfect (whit 4 gauge wiring kit)

i am thinking of byung 2 10" type X... the thing is i dont have the money for a better amp for right know i know the type x is power hungry would this amp be okay for the time being ?

i am byung these type X used... less then a year almost never used (that what the guys says) the thing is that i have a 4 year extended warranty from FS whit the infinity...what would be my best bet? (by the way if selling my subs and getting the type X there max 200$ diffrence)...selling my infinity for between 300 and 400 and the guys asking 250$ per sub...

there is alot to subs not just $

are the alpine 2 or 4 ohms 1vc or 2vc ?
can your amp run the alpine x at that ohms load ?
how far off are you in power

between the two subs with the same amount of power its hard to say if youll loose output or how your response curves may change..... winisd it.....

as far as underpowering goes... unless you like power compression its not a bad thing.....

Everyone's used subs are barely used...... I would keep what you have a do some box work to impove the performance as best as possible vs. taking in another persons red headed stepchild.

well is 1000rms for the 10" really underpowering? i heard they need atleast 500RMS in them to function properly... that what i would have... this would be an investement down the road i would like to get other amp or 1 Z1 (DD) or something like that and again later on down the road costum box for the type x... its just i thaught that this was a good price for these subs...

under powering the sub is only an issue depending on speaker efficiency and how loud you listen

usually it wouldn't matter too much but the type-x is a very inefficient sub, which is one of its only downfalls IMO. its a very nice driver but it needs close to its rated power to perform at 100%. y not buy 1 type-x and power it properly? dvc in parallel will give u a 2 ohm load which is perfect for your amp.
