What will tweeters do

What do tweeters actually do for the sound i have a 2006 Pontiac Montana SV6 i replaced all the factory speakers to see if the sound would be louder it is a little bit but not much problem is the rear speakers are on the back door behind the seats and the front speakers are on the bottom of the front doors i took some advice from a stereo shop on just replacing the speakers to try to improve the volume now he says i should try and install some tweeters in the vehicle will this make a difference.

I do not want to change the Head Unit as i have a factory Dvd Player that works with the head unit and if i replace it i will lose the controls on the radio for it.

Any advice

the factory deck does have much power out of it i would suggest to power the front of the vehicle with an amp and leave the rear as it is ( for passengers) trust me it will be louder and sound alot better what speakers do you have we need that info so we can help better

tweeters are the small speakers that produce high frequencies. The shop you went to should have explained to you that just changing speakers won't necessarily give more output (it can slightly, but typically not with oem systems as those stock speakers are usually very efficient). The best way to get a system louder is to add an amplifier(it's in the name..amplify). Get a decent brand name amp with at least 30x4 watts rms, and you'll notice a huge improvement.

also adding tweaters will make it sound way out of place, the crossover won't be right, I just dont understand when people say they want to add tweaters.. they are part of a component set of speakers, and they should stay that way, any other way I just find pointless.

2 channel amp that pushes 40 watt rms would do fine and if you have 4 speakers in front the amp would push at around 100watt rms witch is allright and quite loud cause im running a 4 channel at 40 watt rms to 4 front speakers and its quite loud

you have 60 watt rms speakers, therefore, any amp delivering from 30-70 watts per channel will do fine...obviously, the more powerful, the better as it delivers more clean output. If you don't need to fade front to rear, then get a 2 channel, and have the front and rear speakers hooked up parallel, as most amps will run a 2ohm load at twice the power( 2- 4ohm speakers in parallel equals a 2ohm load). The ability to fade front to rear requires the amp to have separate front and rear inputs. If you want fading capability, then you need a 4channel amp.
