I was a Home Depot yesterday to get some MDF and they had some 3/4 sheets and 5/8's sheets. Now the 5/8's was 24.99 for a 4/8 sheet and 3/4 was 29.99 4/8 sheet

In all the boxes i've built i've used 5/8's and it made the sub sound the same as one in 3/4's

just curious why everybody says buy 3/4's mdf and why is it more $$$.They both come from the same factory i thought

3/4 is thicker then 5/8

I myself messed up and used 5/8 on a box I built but it came out fine

Generally, the thicker the wood, the less the box will flex a)if you have large dimensions and b)more so if you are using a sealed enclosure. You could always go with the thinner wood but brace it if you had a large box.

I just buy the thickest stuff I can get (1" MDF) ... Needs less bracing ...

Also, it's $5 ... Skip a Big Mac meal and spend the extra $5

Oh, and a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" MDF is $23.99 here ...

ahh....the joys of working at a lumberyard. I won't say how much I pay, but retail on 3/4" shopgrade (FINE for subboxes) is about 20-23 depending on price level.

Thicker = Less flex, less vibration which = less cancellation inside the box.
