I need an alarm for my cutlass just an alarm not a remote start, whats some good brands to look for,I havent bought an alarm for a couple years now,the last one I had was a clifford,I need somthing that has starter kill, keyless entry, shock sensors and a trunk sensor, what would be some good brands and features to look for.

Go to Quinn security. They have their own alarm system. I've had one in my Mazda for two years, and Im VERY impressed to say the least. there fully customizable, to everything from power door locks to led display pagers, if you car is getting broken into. I think Quinn offers a 5 year warrenty or something. Either way, I HIGHLY recommend them. There is one here in Calgary, with a few other locations in Western Canada.

Autopage makes an entry level security system that is very good (CPX2600) - has all the features your'e looking for - should be able to pick one up for $299 installed with all those features. Black Widow has one too - but the key with any security system is the quality of the install - both these brands will give you a Lifetime Warranty on the remote controls, alarm brain and installation (shop usually guarantees that) if its installed by an authorized dealer .

i.e. A trained installer - not mechanic who put it in for a case of Budweiser. So get it doen by a shop - give Dave Oakley a call - he's in Kelowna !!

ph: (250) 860-1975

Not sure if he handles those brands, but he'll be able to set you up !!

Good luck !!

Any of the DEI products are great as well, they offer lifetime warranty (like ALOT of others) but they also have Nationwide Assistance in all of North America, so if your away somewhere and your alarm screws up call the number on the back of the remote and they will send you to the nearest dealer and that dealer must repair the alarm (to make it functional, that is all) so you can get back home and have your retailer fix it up 100%

Over the years I have done a few and the owners are very grateful...........

Every Quinn security system I've removed has been a basic black widow alarm with their sticker on it.

Go with Clifford G5, best alarms on the planet.

2nd on my list of alarms I think work well and reliably, the Black Widow BWX5
It's the only black widow alarm I'd ever use myself.

^^ LOL, oh, that is hilarious. I've been quite happy with it. In that cudos to Black Widow.

Hardcore Rock Superstar 01-10-2005 09:03 PM

i've had good luck with my compustar

also had good luck with my predator alarm, although it in no way compared to the compustar

Eli47 01-11-2005 02:13 AM

As G-MONEY said, it's all in the install. I'm sure Dave will provide you with a quality system well installed.

G-MONEY 01-11-2005 10:58 AM

All the "brand names" mentioned are "good" alarm systems - again, dude it's all in the install !!

There are a lot of good alarm systems out there - but in my 14-years of selling them, if there is a problem that someone is having with their alarm system, its usually because of an install related problem.

MR2NR 01-11-2005 11:49 AM

Just make sure you give Dave the case of beer after the install and not before. Another bump for the compustar, have a look at the 2WAMA. (no starter in this version).

G-MONEY 01-11-2005 12:30 PM

Yeah - no beer 'til after !! Second that !!

KelownaSwangin 01-11-2005 05:43 PM

Thanks for the replys everyone,I wont be getting one untill after I swap frames in my car in the spring but the info is appreciated, too bad buddy wouldnt do the install for a case of beer, then we'd be talking,I dont like to pay for somone to do it so Ill end up learning how to to it and probably do my own install,we'll see when the time comes

G-MONEY 01-11-2005 07:03 PM

Uh Oh ...........this guys looking for the case of beer alarm install...........I smell burning !!

Get a pro to do it man .........you cant pay enough to avoid the grief that you may create or that "beer" installer will do.

If you do it yourself ........we may be reading a thread in a few months on helping you fix your sh*t.

G-MONEY 01-11-2005 07:04 PM

Besides......if you don't pay Oakley to get it done, how's he gonna be able to afford his beer !!

KelownaSwangin 01-11-2005 07:28 PM

Im sure Ill be fine I just found the wiring diagram for the car,It aint that hard to tap into that, when it happens Ill find this topic and give it a bump, unless I get one of those free install with purchase deals

G-MONEY 01-11-2005 07:41 PM

Yeah dude.........but, Dave and his beer !!!!!!???

defro13 01-11-2005 08:00 PM

im gettin thirsty, i will install an alarm with the features you mentioned for 342.00 tax inc installed, or 342/20=17 cases of miller genuine draft, botttles preferably. all kidding aside, i can do the compustar 1wama for 340 tax inc installed with the features youve mentioned

Claudio Piccolo 01-11-2005 08:15 PM

I have two Aplines, one Clifford and one Viper.

The Alpines are very very old (8040 and 8080)and they still work AWESOME. They have a WHACK load of features.

The Clifford is a base model (XL500)and I have NEVER had an issue with it. Just very little features.

The Viper is a Remote Starter/Alarm Conbo(non-two/way Viper 540). This system has some added features that work out well for what I was looking for. Again, NEVER had an issue.

Two pionts to reveiw when buying anything for your car.
One:what do you want/need the product to do?
Two: ALWAYS have the system profesional installed.
