Just wanted to first off say hi to everyone, I'm new to this forum, but I do know a little bit about car audio (by no means an expert )

Had a question for you guys (and gals). Does anyone know of any good places to buy speakers (actual shops or online).....preferably Canadian so as to eliminate the need for brokerage fees, possible duties, exchange rates etc.

I've already checked ebay, I'm looking for 4 5.25" for my TJ. I've got a few brands in mind, with JL being at the top of the list. Any suggestions?

Speakers are the most personal part of any audio system.
My advice to you would be to visit your local shop & audition some speakers with your own music. Have a listen to some both in & out of your budget to see what a difference there is. You may or may not think there's value in upgrading for your application but it would be wise to know what's available.
I would not recommend purchasing speakers on-line. There's no way to audition them plus all the other charges your mentioned above.

My first problem is that there aren't a lot of local shops around here. Secondly, one of the shops here does carry JL, and I have heard them (hence the reason I was interested in them). Also I heard the Infinity Reference 5.25's a while back and, although they didn't compare to the JL's. In my opinion they sounded pretty good for the price. I've heard a few other brands, but they were installed in cars of people I know (Alpine & Pioneer), and the JL's that I heard in the shop were way nicer. On top of that I've heard no bad reviews on the JL's as far as quality goes. I've also heard good reviews on Focal and MB Quart but I've never heard them.......

So my plan, and I apologize as I should have been more specific, was to attempt to buy the speakers (that I already heard) from an online source or shop in an attempt to save some cash.

If you're already set on the JL Audio speakers then I would research them on-line for competitve pricing but go back to your local dealer to purchase them.
That way there's no shipping delays, customs duties, etc. & you can build a relationship with your local store. Plus, if you need them installed I'm sure they'll be more happy to help you if you purchased the speakers from them rather than another place.
Good luck!

Ok, say I wanted to research them online........any good spots you know of to do that? Preferably this side of the border? I'm all for supporting the local businesses and I try to do it as much as possible, but I've already dropped a fair bit of coin on my system and anything I can do to save some cash is going to help me. If it's a matter of a few bucks, I'll always go local, but if it's any more than that I'd just assume get them somewhere else and install them myself. Thanks for the help!

I'd never buy anything on-line, I prefer a personal experience.
If you're looking to "research online", just type in the brand name or model for a review, but keep in mind that any review is someone else's opinion, and taste, and probably does not reflect your own.
Keep in mind that as part of the british commonewealth we also get special treatment for british equipment. BTW, there's nothing wrong with used equipment in many cases, when it comes to saving money.

The only company that I know of that carries JL Audio in AB is AB Sound. Very nice Speakers. Worth the drive I would think.

Check them out at www.absound.ca for locations
