thats why companys like dc audio , american bass , ia , etc dont deal with online pricing , its the best way to go about things so customers dont think their getting ripped off by dealers

I don't think I agree with everything.

Our cheep stuff we buy now, is actually better in everyway then it use to be. Be it reliability, performance and yes price. More $ does not meen better quality.

Our 300$ laptop will out perform by miles anything from the 80's and 90's... why should one beleive amplifiers now that can benefit from the new techonology would be worst? It's rediculous. Things get cheeper as they become easier to make. Amplifiers are an old tech, making something simple only gets cheeper with time.

Same thing with HU's, Plasma's were once thousands (and some still are of course) but you can get a cheepy plasma that will outperform most of the 80's and 90's TV's people had at home and with double or triple the size for similar price. Things that aren't new get cheeper and better and not the other way around.

Secondly... new cars have BETTER systems not worst. Leaving the average consumer without a need to upgrade. Most new cars come with all the featuers that people want like bluetooth, usb, mp3:convinience and decent quality.

We all like to say that mp3's are sht, some encoded mp'3 are, but tuff luck actually hearing a difference in ABX tests, it's always a balance and one of the big factors is that with the advent or the internet and greater access to information, people(many not all) no longer beleive snake oil tactits that use to sustain the industry.

-this brands over priced cable gives better sound reproduction or image clarity
-this amplifier has much more SQ in it because it has great damping factor and other useless specs
-32 bit burrbrown DAC's are needed for accurate reproduction
-this speaker is amazing just cuz
-this is expensive so it has to be good.
the list goes on and on.

I think one of the major things that mohawkboom said and it's that there are a lot more things competing for our cash, it's probably the 2nd most important factor.

the lower end might be better now then it used to be , but back in the day there was no 16ks , or 11001s people were competing with what a couple hundred watts , so alot of it came down to the quality of the builds

Car audio had a decent run and I like some of the others on this forum, were there from start to finish. From my start at removing 8 tracks to my end at installing anything under the sun, I like many others saw it all. Those of us that were there from the beginning knew when it was time to get off the ride and get onto a new one. For me that time was a couple of years back but it took until last summer to find the new ride. It is a new generation now doing car audio, a completely different generation that when we old dogs were just starting out, the current generation were nothing but a glimmer in our eye. My boys here are 19 and 17 and they don't care about car audio at all. They want xbox, computer, movies, friends etc. Times and demographics have changed, hang on for the ride if you like but for me and many many others in the business, the writing on the wall said it's time for a new ride.

"Video killed the radio star"

Though it remains much easier to fool the eye than the ear.

It sounds like the cars audio scene is better off without people like you that no longer want to be part of it, I mean no offense by this but it seems maybe people just don't know when to get out and bring it down

Lots of doom and gloom talk regarding this, a local shop a few miles from my house just opened a second store and hired 3 new people, is there ant store owners on this site that have anything positive to say and are having business success like this one? As I'm new to this site and don't know many of you, are there any people like this on here?
