You'd need a wireless router and wireless adapters for each computer you want to connect. Plug the cable modem into the router. Set up the wireless cards on the pc's. The rest should be in the manual and definitely read the section on security. The manual will tell you how to administer the router. For sure, I would restrict the number of IP addresses the router hands out to the number of wireless adapters you have, any more and you could be inviting other user's.

good question!

802.11a cards u should stay away from! They are not compatible with 802.11b or 802.11g cards. Your best bet is to get some 802.11g cards, cash permitting, they are compatible with b cards, same goes for the routers.

I would stay with one manufacturer, they are supposed to be cross compatible, but you just never know with PC's. I remember a conference a few years ago, Asus had a prototype video card and specifically on the back, it was labeled "Do not use with Asus P5A"

I currently run the microsoft wireless networking system. It can come pretty cheap. I think i paid 240 for the basestation and PC card and i got an additional 70 off in rebates. It is easy to set up. I took me no more that 10mins to set up. Awsome user interface with 128bit encryption and MAC address cloning. The are better out there but i recomend this one for the price and userability. The linksys sytems are pretty good to. Great name but they can be a little more pricey.
