I've tried them both on my 3 sub system with no detectable difference to my ear. obviously one of the differences is the length of wire to the different subs, but I use large enough wire to negate any resistance or voltage drop problems, though I have not measured any of those electrical properties. My guess is that there is a voltage fluctuation as the first coil on the first sub absorbs some of the electrical energy, therefore not sending the identical signal to the rest of the sub(s) in line. I'm sure one of these well informed engineers can set me straight.

Maybe not the best analogy but it just popped into my head.

Think of it like an aftermarket exhaust header compared to a stock exhaust manifold. Both get the job done but the header routes the gases individually from each port on the head through it's own tube (hopefully of equal length) to gather at one spot (the collector). The result? Better breathing, increased efficiency, more power, better tuned. The stock manifold gathers exhaust gases from each port all into one log and then has one port to shove it out. The result is poorer efficiency and less power.

In no. 2, the wire leading from the terminal cup let's say to the first driver has to handle the load for both subwoofers. Then, the power delivered for subwoofer 2 has to pass through the terminal of subwoofer 1 where the wire is connected to. And then there is the minute differences between the length of wire subwoofer 1 sees and subwoofer 2 sees. More opportunities for resistance and power loss and unequalization between the drivers. That's just my 2 minute 2 cents.
