Wiring Tweeters

Heyhey erry'body!

Just wondering, I have a set of components in the car already (P.G RSD65cs) and have a set of JBL tweeters kickin around in the garage. Could I add the tweeters in with the component set?

what would be the way to do this? Could I just wire the tweeters together @ the cross-over (i.e. 2 tweeters @ tweeter connection on the crossover of the P.G.)?

Or would I have to run a whole different speaker wire from front to back for these?

The P.G.'s are already on a Kicker 4 channel thats barely turned up at all so theres still some room to play with in terms of the gain.

Thanks to all!

Andrew

Nope. That will change the crossover point.

That's the way to do it. They will need their own crossover too. If you don't have any, try a 2.2uf or 4.7uf non-polarized capacitor inline with the positive speaker lead for each one.

They did come with their own crossovers. I was hoping to be able to splice in since I don't have much room in my doors.. lots of grooves and bumps everywhere.

Dayum! lol

Move to an active crossover and ditch the passives. Run the tweeters off 2 channels and the mids off the other two channels of the amp.

excuse my ignorance... all I would have to do is take out the crossovers altogether.. run individual wires for each tweeter and mid to the amp.. hook up the mids to 2 channels and tweeters to the other 2 channels?

Thats it? Once again, excuse my ignorance

Yep that's pretty much it. You need to add an active crossover before the amp of course and set it correctly.

ahh icic, gotcha now!

Would I really need to make it active though? I'm not really an SQ guy at all.. more about SPL... except now with my new setup, all vocals are basically gone lol

In this case, would it make sense for me to just run a new crossover & tweeter to the amp?

Your call. The easiest is to forget about the second set of tweeters

Running everything on seperate channels will let u level match for output and use the front/rear fader to do it on the fly. If u run a second set of RCAs at least. The easiest way to add a set of tweets is to attach them at the input to your current crossover and run them through their own passives. I've got a second set of tweets up front and I like the addition. I'm running them off deck power right now so i can turn them on/off at will and because I don't currently have an extra 2channels right now.
