Hi John,
What would you suggest I'm about to get some stuff installed.
I have Focal 165V1 for the front, Exile 600.4 4-channel amp and Eclipse SP6910 for the back. Clarion VRX775VD HU.
Would it be better to run the Focal's dual mono off the amp and the back 6x9's just off the HU or both sets off the amp.
How much of a difference would it be ?

Thanks.

Use the amp to power all the speakers is a personal preference of mine.

Ok Thanks MR2NR
That's what I planned on doing but thought maybe the extra juice to the Focal's might have been good.

back on topic, if you have access t the focal lines, you';ll also have access to Twister amps. very good sounding and lots of *****. They have ooverbuilt power supply sections so they are never down for power so you can use the 4ch amp for the fronts and subwoofer without any real noticable difference. As for subwoofers, the focals do sound fantastic but a single 10(11")polyglass V2 will struggle with higher output levels the access subs aren't anything special. the Eclipse SW7200 is a solid reccomendation for a sealed box. I'd try that setup first and if you feel need rear fill then pick up some rear speakers and power them off the head unit. If your happy like that awesome.. If not, get another amp for the sub and use the 4 channel for fronts and rear fill.

Also the alpine PDX amps have had some problems and WCS(canadian repair center for alpine on the east side) just throws them out and ships off a new one. which is usually a sign that they are overcharging for them in the first place if they are not worth repairing.

Thanks for the heads up on the PDX Sikk Nation. I'll keep it in mind. As I was just explaining to MR2NR in an e-mail, our canadian dollar just ruined my plan. The PDX5 went from 649.99 to 799.99 retail. So whats the point then? I'll look at other options tomorrow when I head downtown to see the guy about the Focal stuff. He claims he can still give me a PDX5 for 599 and I might take it unless something else comes up in the mean time. The amp is the easy thing to exchange for me. Once its installed if i dont like it i can just unplug everything and swap in a different brand. going to check out twister as you suggest also. The Focal dealer might have them as well, didn't get a chance to ask him before he closed.

Much appreciated.

Focal, Twister, Steg, and AudioControl are are all done through the same distributor in canada. So if the doesn't have them, he has the aprice list at the very minimum

I also am afflicted with the same disease as you and many others on CCA I like my Fillet Mignon but I can only afford ground round as I am married. Doing systematic improvements slowly and deliberately will afford you the luxury of being able to buy quite expensive equipment as well as focusing on each component in the upgrade path. This way you can move up to pricier products if you see fit too. The actual installation is the time consuming and expensive part of this BTW.
Exceptions to the rule are several and like the BA amp are really good deals from dealers selling equipment with warranties

Okay so I've bought 90% of what I need today with the exception of the sub. Here is where I'm at with the system:

Pioneer DEH-P800PRS+BT&Sirius HU
Focal 165VR Comp
Focal 130CVX Coax
Focal 4.75 4ch amp
Focal 1.800 mono amp
2x Aurasound Bass Shaker Pro

So this will get me by for the time being. I still cant decide on what sub to go with primarily because I want to hear it before I buy it and secondly because I cant decide how much hatch space I want to part with. Sealed, Ported, False Floor, I'm flip flopping like a fish out of water. Until I can decide the second I can't move onto the first, so I'm not going to throw money at it until I've thought it out thoroughly and taken the time to do some more research. I am extatic to have gotten the 2 amps off the demo board for under $1000.00 for both. Far less than half what they're currently retailing for. If you live in the Toronto area, I can't speak highly enough about the family that runs Number1Sound on College Street. I went in with more questions than answers and they were more than happy to entertain even my most rediculous ideas and give me solid answers on what direction to go. They didn't mind my 2 year old dancing like a fool around their store and they even pulled their installers out to discuss my install which they were not going to be doing. Thats customer service. So all in all its a good day. My VISA is a bit hot at the moment, having spent now 3800.00 on gear that isn't even in my car yet. But its nothing compared to how hot my wife will be when she gets the bill next month. Heehee!

If anyone has a couch that I can sleep on it might be nessecary.
