RA's are my fave bang for buck high-SQ amps, if you're not looking for high power. I dont know how DLS does it, their Reference and Ultimate amps sound incredible. Not idea about the performance line.

USPS is definitely a better option than UPS but there are still charges involved. The 'Gift' idea only works to save duty/tax on the first $60 value (or if you have the Customs declaration also made out to misdeclare the value as < $60 CAD). If it's over $60 (likely the case) and declared as a gift, Canada Post will deduct $60 from the value and assess duty/GST on the balance. If there is an amount owing (duty/GST/HST/QST) - they'll also bill $5.00 service fee.

UPS on the other hand will charge you an excessive brokerage fee + disbursement for 'paying' the duty / GST on your behalf, even though they will have collected it from you well before they have to pay CSBA.

You should factor in 6.5% duty for speakers as well as amplifiers unless they are of US origin.

Well i sent off an email to sonicelectronix they said they have no control of it but a few hours later I went to order a new amp for my girlfriends car and at the top of the shopping cart heres what I found

Canadian Customers: Please note that we now offer all-inclusive shipping to Canada via UPS. This means that we will charge you a fee for brokerage, duties and taxes up front, and we will then pay these charges ourselves to UPS. That way, you will not have to pay anything to the UPS driver, and you can be assured that the total amount that you see in your shopping cart is all you'll pay - you won't get any bad surprise at the time of delivery. If you have questions about this new program, please e-mail webmaster@sonicelectronix.com.
So ground shipping from UPS is $40.13 to my door. Nott too bad!

I fried her Rockford Amp she had so i was lookin at the MB Quart DSC480 which i can run her front component set and her sub at twice the power. So for $139.99+$40 If you can find me a better deal speak up!

^I hope you called and asked for that service and didn't just select UPS as your shiping charge and expect it to be included for that price.... because you will get quite a surprise.

If they say all inclusive then that means you will have to pay shipping (usually 35$ or more) plus taxes (+-14%) + brockerage (usually about half the value of your product). I can't see UPS EVER being cheeper then USPS.

Everything I have ordered from sonix (or parts express, or madisound or ebay) using USPS , the taxes+duties have always come up to about 15% of the price of the product so just like paying taxes on any product baught here.

I also wanted to point out that warranty is pretty much only worth something when it's installed by a profesionnal.... so it doesn't mean much for DIYers ...usually it is 90 days or something worthless like that when you do it yourself.

Of course mr2nr might honor it longer and he likely will quote you a better price then a local shop with shipping included.

Heres what it says when I just do a run thru:

Order Subtotal: $139.99
Canadian Brokerage, Duties and Taxes: $24.01
Shipping Fee: $40.13
Grand Total: $204.13

I left out the $24.01 sorrry, but still i would never EVER get a price like that in town. They wants over 300 dollars plus 13% tax for an Alpine M-500.

Local UPS can still hit you with whatever they want, and you wont be able to do anything. Then try finding answers...

If you refuse to pay extra fees to UPS, cause you think they are wrong, they will hot you with a collecting agency so what are you going to do then. Either way, you lose with UPS. That brokerage by the way looks a bit low to be combined with duties, cause $24.01 just covers the duties, brokerage will be added on here, you'll see. My personal actual experience with UPS shipping international speaks volumes and you will not be treated any different. You can go with it and report back to us, but I guarantee you will be disappointed. I have not yet had a good experience with them getting anything from USA. Locally you're payinh extra for warranty and potential future service. USA seller will not have to even talk to you after the sale is done.

The $24.01 sounds suspect. Your value is $139.99, factor 6.5% duty = $9.10 + 5% GST on the duty paid value of 149.09 = 7.45, so your outlay alone is $16.55. Straight from UPS's website - your brokerage fee is $29.00 (on values between $100-200), and the outlay charge I mentioned is billed at 2.7% on the outlay, min. $5.85. So I would factor in $51.40 for clearance charges. Still a good deal overall but don't be surprised when you get the call from UPS to get 50 bucks before they'll deliver the amp.

I doubt you'll have any extra fees if you UPS expedited (sounds like what Sonic is using here), I've ordered stuff that way . But its still more expensive than using USPS.

Make sure you pay with Paypal though, if there are extra UPS fees send the stuff back and get a refund.

Meh that's decent but I bought mine from futureshop for 250. Sometimes their sales are good and make ordering online not worth the hassle.
