What are you using for a box? Before you buy new gear, make sure you have a good box.

 

single 10" I figure will be quieter! Umm what r you running for a box currently compared to your buddy?? The box can make a huge difference

Does your friend have a hatch back? Maybe he has sound deadening (and you dont)?

he has the H.O box for his JL.. right now i have a sealed box that is 1 cube each side for the subs.. should i make a bigger box? what are your guys' opinions?

 

he drives a grand am, i drive a 98 honda accord. Neither are a hatchback. Another thing that is confusing me is that my subs are 450 watts rms each while the Orion HCCA is 1500 watts rms. So wouldn't the Orion be louder than the boston g5's 900 watt total rms?

 

The W7 H.O. Wedges from JL are ported style boxes. You're using sealed chambers for your subs. You're comparing apples and oranges. Your G5 subs came with a manual/sheet from Boston that shows you the recommended dimensions for a ported box. Or you can have some of the guys on here help you design a box for those subs. You'll definitely hear a difference if you build ported boxe(s) for your subs

 

can someone help me design a box from here or should i go to the enclosure forum?

 

when i go ported, will there be a big difference or will it be about the same?.. my other buddy has 2 g2 12's which are 300 rms each in a bandpass box and his is quite a bit louder than my 2 g5's..
