would this work?

would this work for 2 RE8's ?
- 27" x 14" x 12" @ 1.94 cu.ft. Gross Vol. / 1.22 cu.ft. Net Vol. - Common Chamber, Slot Port @ Fb 34 Hz - 2" x 12 1/2" x 42 5/8" I.D. sorry for being a pest

IMO your port is too big - you only need 12-15sq in of area IMO for it to work just fine and this will make for a way shorter port (hint: vents over 2feet long are bad)
I'd keep the gross volume at 2cuft or so though - all else looks good.

Thanks very much.....wish I knew what I was doing...so my vent should only go about the depth of the box?

Sorry, dont mean to hijack the thread, but im curious about what dukk said about vents over 2 feet long are bad. Just wondering if that rule applies to the more powerful speakers as well? (An L7 in a big ported box for example)

I don't mind the thread being hijacked at all.
I just want to build a box...might have to pay someone for blueprints though.

this is a very helpful link,as for the port length calculation, swap the hight and length and use the longer port of the two.this one works good!!!

Relax dude. just reread what dukk said. Try making your port 2" x 6" and you'll get a more reasonable length.
The bigger the port area (2" x 6" = 12 square inches, that's the port area) the longer the port has to be.

ok so 27"x14"x12" vent 2"x6" 11" deep sound about right?......or round 3.25x 8.66 deep if I went with just a round port.....this will be my last post...promise

^ That should work fine but consider a 4"diameter port.
If your vents wind up over 2 feet long then the box probably has the condition of being too small or tuned too low or too much port area. People will go on and on about 'pipe resonances' and blah blah blah but usually if you see a mega long vent in a design there's a problem - not always, but usually.
