Xover questions

Heya, i'm looking for a crossover (for subwoofers) and i'm looking for suggestions. Is it possible to get one that does 30hz or less? Also, whats the avg power (volts and amperes) required to run one?

Keep in mind, i'm a noob at this stuff.

PS: I want one that doesn't have a built in amp. Just a standalone xover

You may use the subsonic filter on your amp as a HPF to set 30Hz. The LPF can probably be set on the headunit, if you cant set it using your amp.

PS: xovers have built in amps??? Usually we say the amp has a built in crossover.

you have it backwards.

HPF plays only above the crossover point, Low Pass means only frequencies below the crossover point are played.

crossovers are cheap. Kicker, Phoenix gold, etc. etc. etc.
But why would you want below 30 HZ only?

Average lpf for subs is 80 hz. you can go a little lower if you have good midbass speakers, higher of you have small subs and no or little midbass.

Back when the movie Earthquake came out, movie theaters installed high power subs @ 40 Hz, and surround speakers, for effects only. After some revisions, this later became what we now know as THX.

I think he's looking for a subsonic filter thats can be set at 30hz, so basically a highpass filter that is set for 30hz.

You want it to play below 60Hz you have to set your LPF to 60Hz. You may be able to do it from your headunit or sub amp.

You can run a coil and capacitor but it depends on the wattage if its 200w and above you will struggle in making one and your amp may not like it
