They are not the greatest subs, but they are not bad. I could be wrong, but I believe they use the same magnet/motor as the mtx 4000 series subs.

Although Xtant has a great reputation in the car audio world, their new subs really do not reflect the quality of their older amplifiers etc. It may be more worth while for you to buy something locally.

I owned a pair of JBL GT series 10" subs for a while, and liked them a lot. Sounded great in a small sealed enclosure. They were not overly expensive either. Very efficient, and handled a fair bit of power. Think they cost me around $80 each. Great performance for the price.

Its a good price for the Xtant subs, so long as you don't get nailed by customs/brokerage fees. I really don't know if its worth driving to the US for, (unless you live in windsor or something)

We sell quite a bit of those at Sounddomain. It is basically a 6000 series sub. They had some bigger dealers (the tweeters down here, a regional chain) that wanted a promotional type woofer to put on sale so they made them. They then decided that those subs weren't the best as far as building the companies credibility as a top notch brand (which is why they have MTX and Coustic in the stable). So they got blown out by Mitek to end the confusion of "if its a high end brand, why do they have a cheap woofer?".

Are these identical to the A series subs (but renamed for a promotional package?) Someone was trying to tell me that this was the case, but I see some differences in the specifications (specifically the power handling)

Not sure, there is much more intermingling with the subs than the electronics. I was told it was more high end than the 4000, 4500 series and more on par with the 6000. Didn't bother checking to see where they compared to the A series.
